Ah.
A bit strange that computers only that old would do that.

Not strange at all. This is a result of poor design!

Not necessarily. Two computers crashed, that is true. However, the time between the two crashing is irrelevant. As for a kernel panic, that can be caused specifically between a program and the hardware. With the new MacBooks there have been issues with Chrome not being compatible with the new Intel Graphics 4000 causing them to kernel panic.

These are 2010 iMacs.
We weren't doing anything we didn't normally do, and we used Firefox.

I wouldn't dare buy a Mac desktop, but I'd like for you to show me a thin and light laptop with better battery life and more power that costs less than the macbook air.

iMac 27 are good value. Airs are awesome. The reason the Macs at the programming camp crashed was probably because of unstable software used by previous campers. I know that badly ported software as well as outdated software are both things my Mac doesn't like.

Yes, but people are fanboys for reasons, they don't just like Macs for the sake of liking Macs. (I'm not a fanboy, I'm just saying)

The new Airs get up to eight hours of real-world web browsing usage now. The thing is, I consider laptops to be mobile things, not necessarily powerhouses, while I feel desktops should be powerful and ready to take on whatever I need to throw at them. And most of all, custom. I'll build a desktop whenever I need one. Hopefully when we decide to replace the old Vista junker desktop we have my parents will let me keep it (as a server) and let me build a better one. Also, I've never really seen the need for an All-in-one, and for many uses the standard tower design probably cools better.

I understand if you want a tower, as the tower design definitely has its advantages. My point was though that Macs are good value. Ever tried building a custom PC with the specs of the 27" iMac?

If I wanted an overly-candied desktop I'd just build a high quality rig and install a Linux distro with KDE.

It may have to do with how many people are on at the same time, or at least that's the reason they gave us when I went to this STEM thing for communications and the Macs we were using crawled along like... Something funny that crawls along.

Anyway I like Windows because I like using Paint Tool SAI (also I don't have any choice).

If the mouse you use on a mac doesn't have a right click button, you can just ctrl+click  tongue

Ok then, let me rephrase. I hate my school's mice that can't right click.

Re: Mac Vs PC

Just to add my two cents,  not enough people have Macs that hackers care to make viruses.  They are not virus-proof, they just don't have any viruses made for them.  If there were no other computers besides Macs, Macs would get viruses without something like McAfee.  Also, an iPad is not a Mac.  The whole topic:  tl;dr.  Someone else may have said this.

Not true. I have never owned a Mac, however I still defend them when people make blatantly untrue statements about them, and I will defend against blatantly untrue state, emits about Windows. If I get a MacBook like I want I look forward to adding something to the footer of my site:
Made on a Mac, Windows, and hosted on Linux. We're not exclusive.

It's true. I often support Windows (how unlikely that might seem) for example, I'm happy to discuss gaming on PCs with other gamers. I'll also make sure anything I make software-wise has support for Windows as well as Mac if that's possible. I just find that Macs are more productive to me for the purposes I use it for. If people start saying things that are completely untrue about Windows, I would correct them. Sadly, it's much more common for people to say untrue things about Macs.

Common misconceptions about Macs:

They don't have right click — They actually do, you just have to enable it. Even if you don't enable it, you can always use control+click

They are not good value — Try looking for a PC with similar specs to any Mac and you'll find that they are pretty good value, especially if you consider that Macs are made from high quality materials and parts

They are for noobs — I actually know a programmer who recently switched to Mac. From Ubuntu. He's not a noob, in fact he is one of the great experts of Artificial Intelligence, and knows a variety of programming languages, and has written books about Ruby.

They can't be used for gaming — Wrong! No I'm not contradicting myself, they can be used for gaming, and OSX has an ok selection of games available, though not as many as PC. Hardware-wise, you can always install Windows on a bootcamp and play games through that. The Retina MBP would pwn an Alienware of a similar price. I've checked.

There is not good software support — Actually you're likely to find a better-built superior Mac application replacement to whatever Windows program you use.

They are just as likely to get viruses as Windows — No, whether Macs are easier to gain control of than Windows by a Hacker over a network is debatable, but consider this. Sure there are not many viruses for Mac but all of the major ones, Flashback, Macdefender, DNSchanger, require you to type in the administrator password. Shows how well permissions are used in Mac. Unix based. Oh yes.

You can't do work on Macs, only do 'stuff' — Microsoft Office is available for Mac, as well as LibreOffice, OpenOffice, and the excellent iWork suite. Hm, Accounting, Word processing, all covered.

The only thing Macs don't have is a computer for less than $500. But then again, you get what you pay for. Ever tried the touchpad on a $300 netbook?

Well, any OS with binary compatibility can get viruses.
