Hello Scratchers, I had scene the last Harry Potter movie made, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It was a good movie and I have seen all of the movies in the saga except for Order of the Phoenix. I know Harry Potter has to defeat Voltimort once and for all because Voltimort is evil. What I don't get is why Voltimort is evil.
Discuss the Harry Potter books and movies here.

I don't think another of this exists. Anyway, I totally don't get why Voltimort is evil, but Voldemort's backstory is kinda sad. He's evil because he never had any love... :'(
His conception was loveless, his childhood was loveless and finally his life was loveless. If you read into it, a lot of Harry Potter is about love.

I guess I feel sorry for him now. I thought he was a jerk, but I ended up kind of showing sympathy for him. * Spoiler Alert!* I was hoping he would end up like Snape (or is it Snake?) where he became good and actually cared for Harry Potter

Nah, Voldemort's evil.
JK Rowling's a master of shades of grey and alternate character interpretation. Snape didn't care for Harry. He cared for Harry Potter's eyes-the last thing left of Lily. In another situation he would've loved him as the last thing left of Lily but he looked too much like James Potter.

Dumbledor said in the Deathly Hallows Part 2. He said this to Snape:
Snape: You kept the boy alive so he can die when the time is right?
Dumbledor: Don't tell me now you have grown to care about the boy.

I'm going to say you haven't read the books, have you? You should because they're excellent and explain the finer points of the series better than the movies would ever be able to.
(Also his name is Voldemort. Not Voltimort )

Well, Snape doesn't want Harry to die still. Unless I forgot something of the book, it's not only his eyes that Snape loves. He keeps Harry alive because he is Lily's son and feels obligated to.
Throughout every book he is mean. Extremely mean. It's pretty much irredeemably mean. But he's saving Harry multiple times throughout as well.
But unlike others, I wouldn't see Snape as a good guy. I'd see him as a very bad and mean person who happened to fall obsessively in love. (Perhaps even too obsessively?)

I'd see him as kind of like an 'anti-villain', if such a thing could exist.

Perhaps more like an antihero?
Excellent books; my favorite is either 4, 5, 6 or 7, but I'd say probably 6?

Actually, one does, it looks like it got inactive about three months ago, but that really isn't too long. Let's keep things tidy around here and put all the HP conversation in one place.
