I am having a MAJOR issue with Scratch only giving me half a gigabyte of scripting space to work with. I need more than that. Like ALL THE MEMORY ON THE COMPUTER. Or even better yet, HOW MUCH I ASSIGN IT TO. If anyone knows how to do this let me know. I found a topic about it already but it wasn't very helpful. Plus they had no idea what they were talking about. I am a computer control freak and I like to know what is running on my computer at all times and how much of the ram it is using. Scratch can only take up to 512 MB or half a gigabyte. Maybe a little over that but that's it.

You would need to assign more memory to the Squeak VM. What OS to you use? I can help you if you have a Mac.

That would help me, I am constantly having Scratch run out of memory and I have a Max with 12 GB.

This might help,
right click scratch's title bar
goto vm preferences
select system config
play around with the CPU options
The CPU has nothing to do with it.

There are ways to assign memory to scratch, but it is not supported by scratch, if you really need it I will post a how-to, but it will depend on what OS you use and what software you have!
I have Windows7 64-Bit AND Ubuntu Linux 64-Bit.
Other programs that are running in the background has no effect. I know that for a fact.

Yeah, just a second.... I'm gonna go get some juice.

Ok, I'm back. That juice was good. The first thing you need to make sure is that your problem is indeed Scratch. So can you use Activity Monitor (under utilities) to see if Scratch really guzzles memory?

My problem is that Scratch runs out of memory, that is, it's not utilising all of the available memory. I have 12GB.

I don't need that. I know how my computer runs and I have watched it in Task Manager. Under the processes list I can see how much memory that Scratch is using. When I edit a HUGE script, the memory usage goes WAY up. Then when I save the project, it goes back down to like something like 17 MB. Then if I scroll down to view the huge script, the memory usage goes up again. The farther I go, the higher it gets. If my script is too large, it will crash scratch. I can't get out of it. I found out how to get past it...But...When I did...This is what happened: http://Scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=sB253kLvJrE
I have a version without bullets in the description of the video. Or you can just find it on my projects page.

That won't work...That is for scratch when it's running in source. I need the project file to change the memory amount.
