Hypothetical question

Sometimes, my mind wanders, and I come up with weird questions.

Anyway, my question is this:
When a user gets banned, it is not ok to create another user to get around it.
However, is it ok if I delete all of my cookies and just access the site not logged in (i.e. I can view but not post comments, projects, or on the forums)?

Edit: I think I came up with this question when I was revising the code for bans on Mod Share.  tongue

Re: Hypothetical question

I believe they have whole ip bans, so no. However, if they entirely changed contact information, deleted all cookies, and got a new router or SOMETHIG they could probably make a new account to bypass it  yikes

I think it said on the wiki that they usually only ban people by username, unless they are trying to get around it by creating new accounts.
I can't access the wiki right now, but I will provide a link as soon as I can.

Re: Hypothetical question

If it's not an IP ban, my guess is that'd be fine, but I may be wrong.

Re: Hypothetical question

I think the point of a ban is to stop people from interacting with the community, so if you are just viewing the site without logging in, it should be fine.

Yes.

If you move house your IP changes, so you get around the ban. Proxies work Too. All of these ways of getting around a ban is not allowed, but should work.

And yes, ipbans are rare. Mostly user name bans are used.

My question isn't about that, though. My question is are you allowed to view the site not logged in as anyone if your user was banned?

Re: Hypothetical question

I think that the Scratch Team has better stuff to do then looking for people looking around when they're banned.

That's a good point actually, even if it wasn't allowed, who's gonna know?

Yeah, I don't think that they put too much effort into tracking IPs of guests.

the scratch team should have a little more fun on the website. they should just look out for bad people than just seek them.
