It was honestly way overblown. There were some issues with it I'll agree; the voice actor for Derpy in the scene thought she was a male, so the voice turned out being rather deep, almost as though it was accentuated to sound like someone with a speech impediment. With that, the crossed eyes, clumsiness, AND the name Derpy, I can see why someone would take issue. Alone though, I think the name is fine.

Not really. Maybe for the parents and adults who disapprove, but I think at this point, on the Internet, where most of the actual hatred happens, it's not so much because of the show, it's because of the fact that some people make a huge deal out of it. Like, they bring it up in random places and they confront people in their lives about it, and they actively try to spread the fandom. Some people also talk about it like it's so amazing that there's a kids show that isn't terrible (see Powerpuff Girls for another example of a funny and interesting show targeted at a similar audience). It can get really annoying sometimes.

It's a good show overall, focused on actually giving worthwhile lessons to children and everyone rather than on advertising a line of toys or being plain girly in an attempt to appeal to girls (*cough* *cough* G3[.5] *cough*). Give it a try.

EDIT: And yes, the show does have it's occasional girly scenes (and imo, episodes that are just overall more girly like the S1 one where Rarity makes dresses for the gala, but that may be just me) but they're easy to ignore.

Some fans can get overzealous at times, and so I can't blame people who aren't interested from getting a little frustrated.

I thought the commercial was rather cheesy, but the actual game (didn't even consider it could be an actual game) is pretty good now that I play it c: I keep dying for stupid reasons though lol
