Hi there. I am new to Scratch, and unfortunately can't even get the Version 1.4 installer to work properly.
I have a plain-vanilla Windows 7-based Dell laptop. I understood that Scratch is Windows 7 compatible. But whenever I try to run the v1.4 installer, I get a whole series of file installation errors and, needless to say, it does not work.
On the other hand, on my old Windows XP Pro 64-bit system (like who uses that?), the very same v1.4 installer works just fine with no issues.
Any idea what I could possibly be doing wrong? Please help!

I've noticed that Win7 64 is always bugging up. Try a 32-bit PC or downgrade to WinXP 64.

I don't think that's really the problem; Scratch installed flawlessly on my x64 Win 7 computer.

Right-click on the install package and say "run as administrator".
Worked for me.
I have it installed in 32-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit Windows 7.
By the way, we could do a better job of telling you how to fix the problem if you gave us the EXACT error message you are getting.

I put my money on this as the solution. If your account doesn't have enough privileges to be able to install software, you'll get all kinds of errors. Make sure you are admin, and then try it again.

I can't help you here expect this: Try using the files-only version, extract the ZIP folder then click the Scratch.exe.
I can't help expect that because I have Windows 7 32-bit, and no Windows XP comp at all.

i think you can do it like that rdococ said. The scratch hacks i downloaded (like BYOB) works 100%. Why?
'Cause i didn't installed it. Try Searching in scratch or google Scratch 1.4 Only Files, Then you don't need to install.
Because of this backup for my Windows 7 (I Had Windows XP, but it messed up)
i lost my scratch, so i need to download again just files.
Tell me if this helped.

Make sure you have enough RAM space, maybe that's what's wrong.

Help! I am trying to download Scratch to my HP Pavilion running Vista! I have tried many times. The other day I seem to get it down and open after numerous attempts. Today I cannot find it on my computer and worse it will not download at all saying that has "failed"... I read about doing it as admin but see no option like that during the download process...any tips?
