So, anybody else like to be a smithy in their spare time?
I've made a couple of crossbows, a longbow, currently working on a sword, and a mail shirt.
Swords are my favorite.

I've seen people who make swords, shields and armor to then recreate medieval battles in the news. It looks pretty interesting but I don't have the tools (or budget, most likely) to get into it.
The most I've done is a lame bow out of sticks that had a range of about 2 meters, and an equally lame crossbow for a school project with my friends.

Its actually quite easy and inexpensive, if you can learn it. Making a sword is the easiest, actually. All you need is like a block of concrete, a blowtorch, a long piece of metal, a short piece of metal, wood, and a hammer.

Cool! While I tend to prefer European Middle-Ages weapons/armor, thats still pretty awesome!

Thanks! I would love to make a real sword but my dad would never let me borrow his blow torch. XD

And out of that all I have is wood and a hammer
I suppose the concrete is to work on, the long piece of metal to forge the blade and wood for the handle, but what is the short piece for?

The short piece is the crosshilt
In a sword, it is:

OEDIT: Worst ASCII sword ever, but you get the picture.

Make a flail! It technically doesn't have edges
Seriously though, there's also the possibility of crafting shields and armor, I suppose. Or other weapons that aren't as dangerous such as a bow.

I could probably make a small morning star with a stick, some chain or twine, a tinfoil ball, and nails. Well, except for the fact that morning stars are basically nothing but sharp edges and I'd have to put it somewhere. Or a club, but that's either way too hard or really easy, depending on your standards.
Gah, too lazy to make shields/armor.

Have you ever tried to make a morning star?
Ehh, I don't really like flail-like weapons, or maces. Their not as interesting to me, and are more brute force than finesse.
Swordplay is actually more manners, rules and style than just whacking at someone.
I also prefer weapons that are more portable and stealth-y than maces, flails and the like.
Oh wow, I just pictured someone in a bush with a flail in stealth mode XD
