What does the little writing under your username mean????

You know that when on the left hand side where your username is underneath it there is little writing saying Member or Scratchr or Forum Moderator.
What does it all mean?????????????

And
How do you get to change the little writing at the bottom to become something different like from a Member to a Scratchr????

Re: What does the little writing under your username mean????

Scratchr is the people who maintain the website.
Member includes people like us
Fourm moderators maintain the fourms - there are only two (Kevin_karplus and Jens)

Re: What does the little writing under your username mean????

relyt12101 is correct, however, we are trying to avoid the feeling that some users are "better" or "superior" from others. The moderators gained the respect from the community way before they became moderators. In fact, the Scratch Team asked them if they wanted to be moderators because they have been so active, have helped others and in general have been great members of the community.

So in summary, the more active, helpful, and respectful you are the higher your reputation will be in the community.

So I could eventually maybe become a ScratchR rather than a Memeber????
But what can a ScratchR do or a Forum Moderator do that a Member can't do?????????????????

Re: What does the little writing under your username mean????

A forum moderator can delete posts that violate the use of the forum (off-topic, offensive, or just random junk).  I have done this occasionally—mainly for posts that looked like random typing.  A forum moderator can also edit posts (to remove an inappropriate link, for example, while leaving most of the message intact)-—I've not done this yet.  I think a forum moderator can also ban a particular user from the forum, but I've never tried this, so I'm not even sure it is possible.  A forum moderator can also move a thread from one forum to another, if it is misplaced.  Unfortunately, we *can't* move individual messages, so when someone hijacks someone else's thread, there isn't much we can do about—we can either let the thread be hijacked with an off-topic message or delete the new message.

This is one of the two big problems with the web interface: moderators not being able to separate out part of thread as a separate thread.  The other big problem is that while replying to a message the web server occasionally thinks that I've been idle long enough to forget which posts are "new", and I lose track of which posts I've seen already.

Re: What does the little writing under your username mean????

Toasty, funkymonkey is right.  What you can do as a member is to make projects and post them, post comments, and post questions and answers on the forum.  These activities are important to the community—they're why the Scratch team went to the effort of creating this web site.  Every member has the *permission* to do these things, but not everyone does do them.

So make good projects, share them, and help out those who are still learning!

Re: What does the little writing under your username mean????

To become a ScratchR or on the Scratch Team, I think you have to be at MIT.
Currently there are 2 Forum Moderators, who were selected by the Scratch Team from among the frequent contributors to the forum who were helpful to others.  There are likely to be more moderators appointed in future.
