Actually, yes. This show was aimed for having little kids, mainly little girls, watching it.
But it suddenly got an teen/adult fanbase.

thats because the creator put in references and stuff only older people or regular internet users would get

For example?

EDIT: New page. Yeeeaaah.

Amazing.
I DEMAND a Megaman X (16-bit) version of this song.
Unfortunately I can't tell that to the creator of the song directly... -_-

Like in Over A Barrel, there was a scene that reference the chocolate conveyor belt scene in I Love Lucy. That's something you'd probably only get if you were either interested in 50's television or just hung around on Youtube a lot. Though to be honest, I actually recognized it from the sushi scene in Drake and Josh (which was also from I Love Lucy but I was too young to know it when I watched it).

And I think Swarm of the Century referenced the Star Trek episode "The Trouble With Tribbles" (which I haven't seen). And MMMystery on the Friendship Express was nothing but references (James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, old timey movies in general), though those were less obscure.

How do be a brony:
1.) Be a fan of the show.
You're done.

So, the closest thing I have is the Sausage MLP Forums. I guess it's not a bad substitute; it's pretty active for a forum that's not 2 months old yet. 100+ posts per day is a great rate.

Much easier if you're a young girl, you're pretty much in the target audience.  tongue  On the other hand, people don't really expect boys or men to like MLP - even male kids - because the image that the past 3 generations have set (a rather girly show for girls) is still what defines MLP to them.

If a "closet brony" is someone who hasn't mentioned his affection toward the show IRL, then I haven't come out of the closet yet and can't really help anyone.  tongue

DISAGREE

I think it's about the same.

I believe that 8 or 9 is the end of the female target audience. After that, you would get teased to death.

Also, your parents don't think "oh that's odd", they think "wow so immature".

And think about it. Bronies are usually teenage or adult men.

Parents: "ADULT MEN?!?!?!1/!!/1!? MUST BE PREDATATORS!one!11!1eleven!111!eleventyone!11!"

Next year I'll try to get the courage to ask about going to Everfree Northwest. But this year I don't have a passport and it's sold out anyways.

"Toughen up!"

I almost had to do that when my mom took me with her to the DVD store (she was exchanging these Blue-Ray discs or whatever, and told me I could look around the store while she was exchanging them.) I found in the "Kids and Teens" aisle that there was every episode of MLP on DVD (Heck, it was even 25% off!). I picked it up, and I heard my mom coming up looking for me, so I had to quickly toss it back in the Sale bin and pretend to be looking at some other random movies.  sad  That woulda been awkward if my mom saw what it was that I had thrown back into the bin. I was like: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a293/wclocks/SMILEYS/smiley_embarrassed.png

I almost wish that would happen, because my parents would just see this thread instead of me having to go through the awkwardness of explaining it all. It would also fix the problem that I can never get up the nerve to go and tell my parents that i watch the show. It would also fix the problem that if the headphones come unplugged from the computer ever again when I am watching MLP, the theme song won't come blasting out of the speakers and my dad yelling, "Turn that down!"

Um, well, my parents are pretty, uh, progressive as far as parents go. They were cool with it. I don't know about you, though maybe start out by telling your parents that you watch a cartoon, that has been praised by kids and grown-ups too. Tell that it has solid writing, good characters, and doesn't push morals down your throat, but instead shows realistic situations. And it even has some humor that little kids wouldn't get, and a few references to other shows, movies, and games.

When they ask what cartoon it is, say My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Then, show them either:

A Canterlot Wedding

or the Season 1/2 intro episodes.

Ok then, just gonna put this here for any closet bronies.

Quoth some old movie: "Feel the fear and go for it"

You guys are all acting like it's the most important/difficult thing in your life. Seriously, it's easy. I haven't actually bothered telling them but all my friends know, I watch it with my sister and I'm sure they've caught on by now. I just wish there was a Europe ponycon. Even if I wouldn't go, at least I'd know it existed. I might go, but the fact the target audience of those cons are college students (who tend to be unemployed and not studying from what I've heard) kind of puts me off.

Oh, forgot to tell. I made a new Gmod anmation with ponies. But I won‘t spam the link here.

Back to the point, I guess telling my Mom that I‘m a brony won‘t be a problem. She‘ll probably say: “It doesn‘t matter. You will always be my son.

I‘m worried about telling it to my father...
He might say “Son, I am disappoint.

...Or maybe not. I dunno, This will still be a secret.
