Hello smile (I hope this fits in MaC)

I need to do a 1-Minute-talk about something australian. I have to chose a theme.
We got some information in school about coral reefs, Kangaroos, Ayers Rock, Australian Football and Sydney.
Does someone know other themes/ topics? Which one should I chose? I can't decide!
It would be nice to get started a discussion about Australia (not political, not religious, not something like that, but about culture etc.)...

I live in Austalia too... I remember I done a school project on Vegemite... and I done a project on the Victa lawn mower, which I think is Australian too. I also had to do a project on one of Australia's big things.

Also, why not do your project on a little but beautiful lake called the' blue lake', I am guessing no one knows about it, it is in a town called Mount Gambier, now, I do not live there... (xD) but the lake is beautiful, and omg is it blue! I have heaps of info on it if you need it smile

Yes I do! And the best bit about living in Australia is fighting crocodiles everyday tongue

But seriously, if you choose a specific topic, I'd be happy answer questions and things, if you can't find the information online.

If you would like a suggestion as to what topic you should do it on, I guess you could do it on lots of things, but if you want something that's not as cliché... here's a short list.

-Surf Lifesavers
-History of Automobiles
-Kakadu National Park
-First Fleet settlement in Sydney Harbour
-Bathurst Race

You should be able to find most info online smile

I'm going to do research about Ayers Rock, Great Barrier Reef and Sydney harbour. I don't know which of those I should chose, I'll decide it after the research. I think I'll make a post with the talk, too big_smile

I chose Uluru.
Here is the information, I have (only the facts I understood...):

Uluru which is also called Ayers Rock (after Sir Henry Ayers, ancient Premier of South Australia) is a gigantic rock in the middle of Australia, in the Outback. It is about 2400 m high. It consists mostly of red and brown sandstone. It's development started 900 Million years ago and then it was covered with water for 400 Million years.
Depending on the time of the day, the rock seems to change its color! To the Aboriginies, Uluru is a sacred place. Because of that, they don't want anyone to climb the rock. I think this shouldn't be ignored by so many people! There are lots of myths and legends about its geological formation and its emergence. Uluru is listed as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

You should include that "Uluru" is the original Aboriginal name for it. Also, your opinion about whether or not the rock should be climbed could omitted, especially if this is supposed to be a factual, objective talk, it shouldn't have the speaker/writer's opinion in it.

Cool! I'm an australian too! Also another fact, I think that it is the largest rock in the world.

I'm so glad about finding a forum topic about Australia that doesn't talk about bushmen hunting down crockodiles and the word mate. And just in case people are wondering, nobody here eats Kangaroos, or Goanas.

Actually, a lot of people eat kangaroos. They sell it in Woolworths where I live. No joke.

I know many people who enjoy eating it as well. Some supermarkets sell buffalo and emu as well from what I heard. Not where I live though.

Never heard of anybody eating goanna...

No, kangaroos are kinda a pest in Australia (but not as much a pest as rabbits or cane toads) so hunting them is allowed. Most kangaroo meat sold in supermarkets are farmed though.

And no, it's not in the middle of nowhere, I live in the 5th largest city or something. Still not big though. Would be a minor town if it was in USA tongue
