Is it possible to...

...create a transparency-to-color gradient in the Scratch Paint Editor? If not, is there a workaround?

It's not possible.

Workaround: Make a row of pixels, duplicate it, and use the ghost effect. (Repeat alot)

Nom this cannot be done with the editor, but I suggest try doing it with a free program such as paint.net or preferably SumoPaint for professional photo editing software equivant  smile

Do the gradient, set the ghost effect while the program is running, and right click on the stage and click "Grab screen region…" Note that you cannot grab while in presentation mode.

It can be a sprite, stamp , pen ink or background. It all works.
