I think it would be good so we scratchers can talk about other things not just scratch related.

We are trying to keep this forum focussed on scratch, so people don't have to wade through piles of unrelated stuff and so that parents and schools see it as a safe place for kids to discuss programming.
The moderators for this forum are unpaid and don't want to have to moderate random discussions unrelated to scratch---it is all we can do to keep up with the current flood of messages.
There are many chat groups on the web for other topics---join one of them.

YAYALEC, it all depends on what the other topics are. Kevin is right, if what you are looking for is chatting features there are other better places for that such as Club Penguin, Teen Second Life and many more.
But if you want to speak up about a topic you care about, you should create a project about it.
For example, we featured a project about the War in Iraq created by a young member of the Scratch community. You can see people posting their own views about the war on that project. We think that's a great way to start a discussion about an interesting or controversial topic.
What kind of thing would you like to talk about? Have you created a project about it?
