Uggh tablets.
No, you can't do that much with them.
You're supposed to be able to but they really aren't that amazing.
I also feel that having only 1 gig of ram is a rip off. Like seriously, that's from like ten years ago. I would also like to point out that when using a tablet the sweat and oil from your fingers clouds up the screen.

I've also always found these funny. Wasn't the whole point of an iPad to get away from the keyboard? xD

Re: Tablets.

I have never understood the "smaller" tablets. What makes a tablet a tablet is the larger screen. You can see the screen much better on a bigger screen; exactly the point of a tablet. The iPad is light and thin enough to carry easily in a bag, and it really isn't difficult to just carry it in a hand. (how most people seem to carry phones anyway, *cough*)

While we're at it why don't I give up my desktop for the Raspberry Pi that can fit in my pocket? I was of the "doesn't fit in your pocket" argument when the first iPad topic was made on the Scratch Forums (before I actually followed hardware news like WWDC and Google I/O). It's something you need to see. I probably seem like a fanboy right now (calm down the iPad is my only Apple product) but it's true. The iPad is nearly perfect, only limited by Apple's vision of it. If it ran a full OSX, I would beg all my family members for a loan right now.

Only the cheap Chinese-brand ones. The better ones like the Transformer Prime and Kindle Fire are actually quite sturdy, and much better than iPads IMO (note the IMO, not trying to start a flame war).

Hmm..... it would be fun to make a tablet with a RPi.... I should try that when I get mine.  tongue

You have used a desktop/laptop for a long time, haven't you? This is the same reaction I get from older people, not because of their age, because they're used to a clunky, plastic desktop or laptop. Some tablets are exactly like you describe. The iPad, however, unlocks a world of content. The first iPad was very much a consumer product, it was for entertainment, but not for creating. But now, I can see that it's moving towards the laptop industry (while eating a bunch of the laptop market) where it will simply become a better, mobile laptop. I've always been against mobile sites, because it's like taking a great website and then sizing it down to three buttons so it fits the device. It shouldn't be like that, the device should fit the content, not the content fitting the device, like Android tablets.

Yeah, those seem pretty funny, they take the "p" in "iPad" away, making it an iPad without the portability. The one instance where those keyboards are handy is when someone's only computer is the iPad and when they get home, the keyboard helps make the iPad more desktop-like. I would never actually carry one of those around, but I might leave it at my desk if I didn't have my MBP.

Um, yes, but I think you can buy a stylus for that kind of tablet and draw with it as well as doing other stuff on it.

Heyheyheyheyheyhey- take that back, I've been using a laptop and desktop ever since I was four or five (I'm current;y 14).
As far as I know the iPad can do everything the iPhone and iPod touch can do.
I realize that the iPad is good but um, seriously, as an example let's take word processing, I would probably laugh if there was a serious word processing app for the iPad, not because the iPad isn't good enough for that but because it's more of an entertainment system. Of course these are just my opinions.

Why would anyone buy an iPad as their only computer? That doesn't make sense...

I agree, the problem with the iPad is you can't type properly without a keyboard. If you try to rest your fingers on the keys you get afldjsfghas .fachkf a.fva.sfan amfhakfh because it's a touch screen. And, it's too big to type with your thumbs. So you have to peck the letters out one by one with your finger. Like a chicken.

But I would like to point out that tablets are amazing for stuff like drawing and most likely the mouse side of scratch. They are also pretty good for browsing the web too  wink

Yup, it can do everything the iPod Touch can do but it's not limited to that, it does more than that, it's almost a replacement for a laptop, but not quite, as it is it's own category.

I can tell you've never used an iPad, because you don't know about Apple's Pages application on the App Store for the iPad that's one of the App Store's top sellers. It's a really nice word processing app, that's sleek, easy to use and has high ceilings. The fact that you didn't know about Pages tells me you haven't investigated the iPad enough/given the iPad a try yet, which makes your opinion slightly less valid on this subject.  hmm

In reply to "why would anyone buy an iPad as their only computer? That doesn't make sense...":
1. It's a very inexpensive computer
2. It's great for travel, and lots of people travel a lot
3. It's completely capable of being a lone computer and is really easy to sync using iCloud, download apps without the desktop iTunes program and do everything your laptop can do without the huge screen.

IMPOSTER! You are not really an iPad! Pages is the word processor!!! Keynote is like PowerPoint. Also, using the keyboard is not that hard, just hover over it. I do that with computer keyboards anyway.
