I don't get it. What is so great about a tablet like this?:
I got this just last week as a gift and I see no other purpose to it but playing Tiny Tower on a bigger screen.
Does it help you anymore than an iPod or a smartphone could?
Or is it just about the bigger screen that makes them more popular???

Pros: It's nice to have a bigger screen.
Cons: You can't carry them in your pocket.

Well... Um... I really want to argue, but I can't with THAT kind of logic.
For one thing, the "iPad" has a better and longer-lasting battery life. It also uses retina display technology, which is actually good for the eyes. Some smartphones don't have that kind of strong display.
A tablet is also better for watching movies and tv shows, as it's more close to a TV experience than a phone or iPod touch.
That's all I can come up with.

Well, I'd rather have a tablet than a smart phone, and they're not much more (If any more) than smart phones.

It's just a bigger screen.
I'm asking why people make a big deal out of them
I mean THE WHOLE REASON smartphones and iphones and such are popular are BECAUSE THEY ARE PORTABLE AND TINY! And CAN FIT INTO YOUR POCKET!

That's not the reason I bet.

Stop trying to act like you're better than me.

Bigger screen, that's pretty much about it. Smartphones are obviously much more portable, I think I'd rather have a good one of these than a tablet.

They're better for web browsing but not as good for listening to music. You can also read ebooks and that's awesome.

The old "But you can't carry it in your pocket!" argument.
It's not a phone, a laptop or a desktop, tablets are somewhere in the middle. Just because they lean towards the mobile-phone side doesn't make them an in-your-pocket device, they're meant to be big enough to get immersed in the content but not big enough to be un-holdable. If you want an in-your-pocket device get a phone, simple as that.

10' tablets won't fit in many pockets if at all, 7' (like my fire) will fit in most larger pockets...

Hey, if there's a tablet discussion going on, you can count on me to be there.

Well, it can do whatever a smartphone can do (minus the 4G) for NO monthly fees. That's a good one.
