We know that many of you who enjoyed the free-form nature of the Miscellaneous forum will grieve its loss. We made this decision because the costs of moderating an open-topic forum were too high, especially when compared to the small percentage of active Scratchers who post there. We need to keep more of our energy focused on Scratch.

It was hard to moderate, it was was too easy for people to post inappropriate or shady subjects and wasn't really fulfilling its job of providing inspiration for Scratch.

I remember seeing that quote on many a topic.

Misc. was archived because its free-form topics seemed to be getting out of control - the Misc. forums almost started to seem like a separate, unrelated website.

Misc. was already known for being home to some flamey topics (usually these flames were generated by topics that related to questionable topics such as politics and religion), but the flaming appeared to reach its peak in the December of 2011. Moderators, having to juggle these flame wars plus a growing amount of spammy threads, decided it was ripe time for a change.

It was a pleasant, tranquil afternoon; the New Year's Day 2012 celebration took place just mere days ago. That afternoon, the Scratch Team greeted the new year with an announcement that shocked many - The Misc. forums would be replaced by the "Things I'm Reading and Playing" forums and the "Things I'm Making and Creating" forums (just like how the "Inspiration and More" forums were replaced by Misc. years before).

While Misc. breathed its final gasps of air, Miscers created a (somewhat) heartfelt topic dedicated to the forum's last days, and numeroua Scratchers (both regular Miscers and not-so regular ones) were able to utter their final goodbyes to the beloved forum.

Soon after, the two new forums we occupy today (TIRP and TAMC, of course) arrived - and the rest is history.
