hi! i thought i would post a topic about feeding pigeons. i feed them almost every day now! pigeons are lovely birds and have inspired me to draw pics of them. sometimes i pick them up and hold them or stroke them! they land on my shoulder and head and are soo cute!!
discus things about pigeons to at this pigeon chat room!
DO YOU LIKE PIGEONS?
DO YOU FEED THEM?
DO YOU AGREE WITH FEEDING THEM?
DO YOU KEEP THEM AS PETS?
HAVE YOU EVER HELD A PIGEON?
most posts on the Qs' will be replyd!
pigeons are not pests. i have NEVER contracted any diseases from pigeons ever. i did catch salmonella from a squirrel once. but NEVER from pigeons. plus, [u]pigeon poo does not damage buildings! it can also be easily cleaned off!
how could people kill them? they are living creatures too! they have rights! they have family! they have feelings too! they feel pain and grief, happy-ness and love just like us!
imagine you live in a shared house that you can't move out of, with other people. you wouldn't KILL them or eat them would you? that would be weird and sick wouldn't it?..
that is what people do to animals.
a source that pigeons pose a low health risk and another source but
little girl caught BUBONIC PLAGUE from a squirrel
I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST SQUIRRELS but this is simply proof that squirrels are more dangerous that pigeons. and pigeons cannot carry fleas so it is impossible to catch the bubonic plague off them because fleas cannot live on pigeons!!! (or any other diseases carried by fleas).
GOT ANY INTERESTING FACTS, OR PHOTOS OF PIGEONS YOU WANT TO SHARE? POST HERE.(no nasty, inappropriate or offensive pictures or facts please)
9star's guide to taming pigeons
1)find a place that isn't to busy (it has to be a bit busy otherwise there won't be any pigeons)but with a large flock of pigeons.
2) buy a few bags of wild bird seed, (not bread as this attracts seagulls).
3 ) throw down a handful of seed, the pigeons should fly down straight away!
4) stand up feeding them don't try to touch them yet.
5) get some seed on your hand and hold it out, if a pigeon lands on your hand don't try to touch it yet. 6) keep doing the steps 2 to 4 until the pigeons are comfortable landing on your hand.
7) try to stroke the pigeons when they land on you!
(you can also put your hand on the ground with the food on it!)
and also....

This looks like it would fit better in Things I'm Reading and Playing - since you are not creating pigeons.

That seems like a bit of an extreme reaction - please be respectful of other people's interests.
Do I feed them myself? No, not pigeons...but I have been known to throw a few french fries to the sea gulls from time to time. However, it is true that feeding wild birds does encourage them to stay where they are being fed - and that can cause problems at beaches and parks from all the bird waste that they leave behind.

well, i do actually make paper-mache pigeons so this does belong here!
plus, pigeons are clean and lovely birds! if people wash their hands after touching/ feeding them you won't catch anything AND you are actually referring to a completly different animal: a south american flying squirrel!!

Well as long as you're doing it responsibly. Maybe it's the city environment making them diseased.

"Flying rats", interesting.
I'm fine with them, but my area doesn't have many pigeons anyway (or almost any other bird, for that matter).

I think seagulls are actually quite cool when they aren't stealing your food.

My school had a trip to Chicago, which involved lunch outside by Lake Michigan in front of the Field Museum and the Shed Aquarium. The seagulls took all the food on the ground (it was windy, so lots blew over) and one of my friends kicked one that was under the table. >.>

the birds have been there longer than us, so really they have more rights to live somewhere than we do!

your friend is really mean so tell she/he to stop it!! by the, way if people are nicer to the pigeons/seagulls they wouldn't be so aggressive therefor be less aggressive!

I personally don't like to touch pigeons, or any wild bird. Mostly for two reasons:
1.) They're wild
2.) They are really dirty
But the ones in your town (9star), seem very tame. How did they get to be like that?

well.. i'm not sure really, but i have been feeding them every few days or once a week for almost a year and i do feed them allot and i wear the same jumper when i feed them so i guess they know who i am. some of them are tamer than others like there is one i call eeks that is REALLY tame though and there are two flocks of them, one of them not as tame but still very tame. and there is an old man that feeds them two but other than that i don't know really.
