Summer of Scratch Collab

This collaboration is dead.  Resurrection is scheduled for early next summer, provided that scratch 2.0 has been released.  At that time a new thread will be created, and parts of this one will be recycled.

This collaboration may or may not need an introduction, but it doesn't have one either way.  We will work on scratch projects, mainly during the summers.

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

Current project(s):
1) YetToBeNamed project.

The following is the storyline for YetToBeNamed as it stands:  (need color key...)
[color=gray][/color]
You play Andrew [lastname], brother of John [lastname].  John [lastname] is the CEO of [Company Name,] a small company on the verge of great success. You and John have developed a new kind of credit card that [is improved somehow.] Unbeknownst to John, [problems arose regarding this new credit card,] and [you somehow found out] that [which?] forces are seeking to [harm the company in some way.] You are pondering how to tell John about this when you get a security warning over your cell. silent alarms are going off in your development lab, located within the vast Grove Hill Factory. With no time to waste, you race into the factory to see what is going on...-

Locomule wrote:

[is improved somehow.] == "works with with multiple credit agencies as well as through local banks as a debit card by storing user information within the card itself."

Would that actually be useful nowadays? The whole reason that data is stored in a database is for authentication purposes.  Which user information would be on the card itself, and how would that help? The money still needs to be billed from the company, and the company still needs to know who to bill for the money they are paying, so the user-info database would still need to exist anyway!  What difference would that make to the user (any random person who owns one of these credit cards)? What benefit would he have by choosing these credit cards over a normal VISA or MasterCard?

Locomule wrote:

[you somehow found out about those problems.] == "you have been contacted by the FBI who want to meet with you over "national security concerns." Upon meeting the FBI agents,"

If we use this, also consider "The agents hint around that the US government may have to take over the project to protect 'friendly' interests. (begin game with meeting) Afterwards, you have mixed feelings as you do not want to give up your hard work nor do you want to get on the FBI's bad side."

Locomule wrote:

[harm the company in some way.] == "gain control of your new technology."

Do they really want control of it? Why? To gain money? or so they can destroy it? Maybe it is better then theirs, or maybe they feel it is insecure and are trying to save the world? Maybe they were hired by someone like one of those options?

The developer website can be found here. It requires a login to be setup beforehand.  If you do not yet have a login, please email metal5090@yahoo.com with your username and a password for the developer website.  Do NOT use your scratch password! Choose a separate password for the site!

Please, do not post any projects for this collab on the scratch website! All scripts, graphics, and samples for our projects, should be uploaded on the developer website, and then let us know here what you added!

Developer Website To-Do List:
1) Add a timestamp showing when each file was submitted relative to now.
2) Add somewhere to type the description when submitting projects.  Maybe options including [New version of main project, Concept, Graphics, or other (Let user input instead)].

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

I'll join! I want to be a programmer/graphics person. In programming my specialties are velocity and scrolling. Please view all my projects for examples. In graphics, I am good at awesome signatures. But again, look at my projects for examples. I am going to make a signature in which I will advertise this.

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

Not sure how much I'll be available for this, but I'll give it a shot. I'll be a programmer. My strength is basically anything dealing with logic (operators, math, etc. lol), physics, sensing, and pen. I could help with AI and level design as well. In scrollers it can be difficult to place items around the level, but I can probably help figure that out... even though that can be VERY monotonous...
Oh, well. Best of luck snowguy!  tongue

Your application has been accepted!  If you make a signature image, please let me see it before you use it.

If you have not already, I suggest you take a look at this project.  We will be using a similar Xscroll project, which  I will be uploading a little bit later.  Check back soon and we will start discussing our first project!

Thanks! Both of your strengths will be very useful for the starter project.  I'll post some screenshots and we'll start working on it.

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

We still need a couple more guys - especially a sound manager -  but lets get started.

In our project, you play as a five-piece-blob similar to the interactive buddy.  You get a gun, and there are enemies, obstacles, and puzzles, which you must overcome, pass by, and solve, in order to get to your goal.  Currently, we still need:

1) A name for the project.
2) A name for the blob - or should we ask for the player's name and use that?
3) A storyline
4) All the appropriate graphics and physics engines.
5) Sound and music.

Right now, I have some of the graphics for the blob, including basic movement scripts, which still need improving.  Some screenshots:

Question about the blob-- is it all one sprite, or is it split up into several sprites? And if so, how was it split up? Like head, body, hand1, hand2, foot1, foot2, gun?

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

I'm sorry zuwel, it doesn't seem to be that your art is up to my standards.  Looks can be decieving, so, if you would like, I will challenge your artistic skills.  If not, or if that fails, and you would like to help more as an advisory sort of person, we can discuss that then.  Thanks!

To all collab members: Sorry for not submitting the base and assigning jobs - got a bit sidetracked today, I'll try to do that first thing tomorrow.

Good night!

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

Should we have some kind of place to share our projects with each other? I have your email (liquidmetal) but that won't really be convenient if it's multiple people.

If you could make a page with an uploader/downloader for this project, that would be great!

The body is currently the torso, the head, two arms, and two legs.  The gun is also separate.

Ok, thanks.  Now, why would a six-piece blob be running through a maze of puzzles, obstacles and enemies?  Who is trying to stop him from what, and what does he gain by overcoming the challenges?

I'm sorry, we have enough programmers for now.  Also, we need better graphics than displayed in your projects.

Re: Summer of Scratch Collab

Maybe the blob( I think the player should write his/her name in the beginning)1-was sent by a general to a world with different creatures and his objective was to obtain a precious weapon that could possibly destroy entire galaxies in one hit of a button. When you land you have a ally that tells you what your going to go through and you go into battle. after you pass all the levels to get to the weapon you then have to meet up with a ally pilot who will get you out. I'm not experienced that much on scratch but is that possible to do?
I'll give more scenario's if you don't except this one.

I think the creatures should rise in level as the player advances.
