Harry Potter > Twilight. Without even reading either of the books (but having watched both movies - Well, movie and series of movies) I think Harry Potter is better, because it's a CLASSIC.

You can't judge what's better when you've only read/watched one. I've watched the Harry Potter movie series (except the last ones) and a bit of the Twilight movie, and I think HP is better.

At least JK Rowling can write a book without saying the same thing twice every page *OMG EDWARD IS GORGEOU--Yeah, we don't care. The Twilight book is poorly written, appeals to only one type of audience and bores anyone who isnt a depressed teenage girl to death.
The sparkling thing is annoying because it's so obviously something Meyer threw in in order to explain why vampires can't go into the sun without having to go through the horror of giving her Mary Sue fairy race an actual weakness. She avoids giving her protagonists character flaws all the way through, which is her decision, but it meant she sacrificed believable, relatable characters. Therefore, I can't be blamed for not warming to them. Furthermore, while Meyer clearly intended them to be perfect, she didn't actually manage to *show* them behaving like decent people - which means Bella and Edward go around treating everyone like * and this behaviour isn't condemned, or is even commended as being good (or, in Edward's case, romantic).
On top of that there's barely any plot, and any plot there is is stupid, forced and constantly contradicts itself.

Haveing never read twilight, I could just say HP is better and have it done with. However, since I am such a big fan of it, let me say my feelings.
From what I have heard, Twilight is a recently noticed novel series about this "Vampire Couple" with the some bad vampires who want to suck Edward's girlfriends, the protagonist, blood. He saves her, end of book one. Now, where do you go from there? This is a sterio-typical gang story, with some fantasy added, although from what people are saying, it was crudly added. No story can be original, but this is really simple.
Now as to how HP is awsome:
As a disclaimer: I have read all HP books at least 7 times each. Some of the earlier ones more than that. I started when the fourth book was about to come out and I loved it from the instant. The first book took me one month to read. The most recent book took me 5 hours. I know HP.
This is a story that is based around a simple concept. Evil overlord, little boy prophesied to kill him. However, JK Rowlings has made this story so in depth with side stories, rich backrounds, sub plots and a plethora of characters so that the books have become very complex. Each one has its own sub-plot, but with enough connections to tie it in with the real thing. I don't think that any of the books went off on a major tangent except for the last one, which did so to tie up all the loose ends. This book was not predictable as in you could not say "Harry is going to win the Tournament", or "None of the main good guys is going to die." He didn't and they did. Yes, she would have not let Lord Moldybut kill harry, but that was the only main truth. I remeber that there were rumors before the seventh book came out that Ron was going to die. You just never Knew.
Yes, I am ranting.
Anyways, I feel that Harry Potter cannot be beat by any book series so far. Eragon is close, as is the Wheel of Time Series. Harry Potter though, it just takes the cake.
HP FTW!

Harry Potter is a bajillion times better than Twilight. There's too many Twilight fangirls driving me nuts, and J.K. Rowling is a much better author.

Illustates your point quite well, no?
That third panel is epic.

EPIC LOL.
I'd like to point out to Smeyer (derogatory slang) that there is no conflict if...
-two-thirds of the book is spent waiting for Mary-Sue, I mean Bella to realize that Edward is a vampire. (I don't blame her - they don't even have fangs.) Unfortunately, it's written on the dust jacket so NO MYSTERY THERE.
-the last third is the actual conflict (The Abusive Sparkly Wonder vs. Actual Predatory Vamp) but it seems thrown in as an afterthought.
Whether HP rides the perfect line between obvious and disjointed plot swings, with almost no knowledge of previous installments needed to pick up at Book No.3. That's probably why I have ALL 7 BOOKS on my bookshelf, and all are frequently read.

As Stephen King once said something along the lines of: "JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyer are both speaking to a particular audience, they're speaking directly to teenagers. The only difference is that Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn."
I agree.
Harry Potter is amazing. The plotline is fabulous, and each book frequently hints to previous or future books so vaguely you would never notice it. Characters who are seemingly unimportant generally appear for a few moments books before they are actually important (for example, the first books flashes to Sirius Black in just a passing mention, and only until the third book do we actually get to meet him as a character). The depth within these books is amazing.
Twilight is just a dumb old love story between a vampire and a girl, aimed only at teenage girls, and probably won't be read / watched by anyone other than that, which leads me to wonder why it got a bestseller status and broke tons of movie records... The books have no depth, and are mainly fluff.

Who knows all those dumb "Team [insert favorite underdeveloped character here]" shirts? Put me on record for wanting a Team Lupin shirt.
OH YAH!!!
Take your copy of The Half-Blood Prince off the shelf, flip to page 275 and read the final paragraph. This paragraph shows something that Smeyer does not realize - VAMPIRES ARE ACTUALLY MURDEROUS. If I was Edward I would smash Bella to small pieces and then kill myself for sparkling.

I've never read or seen Twilight but i think Harry Potter is best, because it's the only one i've seen
Same, I've never read Twilight but I've heard it's really popular at the moment, even in the UK. If you think about it, it seems the love stories are taking over. Because think. Harry Potter, both the books and the movies, used to be the most popular thing ever. But now the most popular movies are High School Musical and Hannah Montana, both love stories, and the most popular book is Twilight, a love story. That's in the UK anyway. Strange, huh?
