I'm sure many of you have been browsing Scratch Projects many times on your Windows computers thinking about how horribly ugly the default Scratch Project icon is. The more technical of you will have found a way to change it into something of less repulsion, but this post serves as a final banishing of the old icon with my new graphics!
If that didn't make sense, this is a guide on switching the old .sb icon with one of my creation, on Windows Operating Systems.
Please note that the steps below involve editing the registry. This requires extreme caution and administrator privileges. If you are lacking either, there is an alternative method with you can find in the bottom paragraph.
1. Download my icon here.
2. Place the icon in a place where you won't delete it, possibly the same directory where Scratch is installed.
3. Open the registry editor (run the command "regedit.exe" somewhere in a command line, or the start menu)
4. Open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and navigate to the entry that says "Scratch Project".
5. Under that, there should be an entry called DefaultIcon. If not create it (right click, select new > key). Make sure that DefaultIcon is now selected.
5. On the pane on the right, double click (Default) and type in the full path to the icon file that you placed in step 2. Then add a comma followed by a zero and click OK.
The path should look like C:\path\to\icon\scratchicon.ico,0
6. Close the editor. The modification should take effect on next logon!
Now for people who couldn't edit the registry. Find an SB file in Windows Explorer and right click it. Select open with, and "choose default program". Look for the Scratch program and select it. Make sure the checkbox at the bottom is ticked ("always use..."). Press OK. All icons should now change to a not-so-ugly icon
I hope that helped, and feel free to suggest the actual forums this goes in because I was really puzzled as to where I should post.

Um, you can just go to folder options and change the icon there...
I use a can of sprite as the icon for .sprite, and I use the scratch program's icon for .sb.

That certainly is an interesting and complete guide, but as Wes64 pointed out, there is a far easier and safer method of doing so.
True You can still use the icon though if you like it
