Idea 1: Auto-naming removed
In the current version of Scratch, costume names are automatically changed.
If I had these costumes: thing1, thing2 and I added a new costume named thing45, that new costume would be renamed thing3. This becomes a major problem when you use this...switch to costume (join [thing] (variable))...because once the costumes rename themselves, the script can't find the right one. This auto-naming function is annoying and its flaws outweigh its benefits. It should be removed in 2.0.
Without auto-naming, when I copy a costume thing1 it shall be renamed thing1-1. If I am renaming a costume and that name is taken, it will report "A costume with that name already exists".
Idea 2: Better ways to reorder costumes
You should be able to scroll while you are dragging a costume.
You should be able to automatically alphabetize the costumes.
There should be a zoomed-out "grid view" where you can see all the costumes.
Idea 3: Better compression
You should be able to select one single costume and compress it. The current method of image compression is all-or-nothing.

I agree, with one exception: In your example about copying thing1, I think they should keep the current behavior. It seems "thing3" is a better guess for what you want to call it than "thing1-1", and if not, well you can always change it. But what I am in complete agreement that it should never rename a costume the user as explicitly named.

That's true.

I agree. It is so annoying when it renames the costume! Another thing is, if you have these costumes:
Thing1
Thing2
Thing3
And you deleted "Thing2", made another costume and tried to name it "Thing2" it names it "Thing4"!!! >

Support, this is really annoying.
Also, with the compression thing, same with sounds. Also, give the option of not compressing images but compressing sounds, or vice versa.

Thats possible already
Go to the Edit menu in the program and select either compress sounds or compress images.

But I think he/she meant that you should be able to compress sounds like the way you are suggesting images should be able to be compressed
Anyway, I support, and because of the new file format 2.0 will use, this should be very easy!
