the problem is that mlp wasnt exactly supposed to attract the people it did but it worked anyway
i have a feeling that if you try and do it deliberately itll fail in a horrible fashion

The ONLY shows I like on The Hub are MLP:FiM and Dan V.S.

And adult male fan group? Like who? (I don't think that would gain many adult male fans.)

Yeah. The Hub is going from good (Dan V.S., MLP:FiM) to "uhhh" (Pound Puppies, that thing with the CGI fairy things) to bad (Care bears).

OK. Still...I'm not a brony, so I don't understand how big that group may be.

There are a few reasons why this is a good idea objectively (or at least not a bad one):

1. It's not like it will interfere with My Little Pony. It will simply . . . exist. When was the last time a TV shows (shows not "news") existence made your life noticeably worse?

2. The Hub is a company. The sole reason My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic exists is because they are a company and saw potential for profit through advertising in the show. Because of the high success of it's appeal to older viewers, they would be stupid not to try again if it will make them even more money. They are simply running as a company should and if you dislike that, I guess you don't want My Little Pony to have funding?

3. Finally, just because they're trying to make it good for older people doesn't mean they will inevitably fail. Maybe it flops and only appeals to children, maybe it's a success and you love it. Who really cares? Like in reason 1, it's existence won't hurt.

Actually, the Hub denies it. It was a rogue PR agent.
I also don't think it looks that bad. Maybe it's just that I've grown up with Care Bears, but it looks like it will have the sort of following earlier MLP generations have had. I probably won't watch it, depending on how much the first episode grabs me. Also, the fact that Carealot is connected to Earth is a big part of it's mythology, so you can't mock it for that.
Chrysalis' line (I think it's canon) "Equestria has much more love then other dimensions." or something like that made me think of Carealot. 
You never know though, Hasbro's doing quite well with reboots lately. First Transformers, then MLP:FiM, now (maybe) this and soon (possibly) the Littlest Pet Shop sit-com.
