Re: The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (Poll)

You people are all choosing songs you like, just like, but are these the greatest songs of all time? I'd think great songs would last the test of time, like some of the good things in there. No one is going to remember Super Bass or Party Rock Anthem in 5 years.

Hey, that's a generalisation! I chose songs that I think are either influential or good examples of their genre.

Edit: in fact, I hadn't even heard of "Super Bass" until yesterday

Re: The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (Poll)

I'd also like to share that what is in the top 500 list isn't a whole lot of opinion. You can say how much you like something, and get it voted in that way, but the contribution and proper community is either there or it isn't.

Firstly, For example, LMFAO is popular only in the style of a, as the song Party Rock Anthem states, party. It already has a lot of negative feedback matching the good. Though it is popular, it has no proof showing it will succeed in the future.

Secondly, when it comes to a song that has been out for a while, it is much easier to see whether or not the song is good enough for such a list. Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1975, and you still hear it on the radio today. With the amount of die hard Queen fans still out there, including some being in the youth stage, it is hard not to call them a top 500 contender. Basically, time is a great way to measure the greatness of a song, knocking out all of the more recent songs.

Thirdly, the influence has to be there. Michael Jackson, though ridiculed and looked at funny, has proven greatly that music is an inspiration. There is so much we've seen from him that we all know, from Thriller, to Smooth Criminal, to Man in the Mirror. To be called the king of pop is something that requires reverence from more than just the fans. We don't just call every single band today the "King of Rap", or the "King of Hip Hop", or the "King of Pop Alternative", they are just there and happen to be popular at the moment. They don't seem to leave a whole lot of recognizable inspiration like Jackson seemed to do.

Lastly, have half the bands on there done this? Has LMFAO inspired and gotten a title from everyone? Has Rise Against held the test of time? They've been around for a bit now, but is the style something above all the others in its own manners and respects. Not enough time to tell. Viva La Vida has only been around for 4 years, can it truly last?

So lets please evaluate our decisions, and find what's wrong with our own choices before we jump around calling each other wrong.

Re: The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (Poll)

I still have nine more votes, so I'll do each from a different style to create more diversity.

"Teardrop" by Massive Attack
"Hangar 18" by Megadeth
"Paranoid Android" by Radiohead
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana
"Waltz #2" by Elliot Smith
"Arcaesenal" by At the Drive-In
"Stan" by Eminem
"Imagine" by John Lennon
"The Private Psychedelic Reel" by The Chemical Brothers

These are all songs that have stood the test of time, or songs that I think will stand the test of time. As new trends come and go, I find myself always returning to these songs. These aren't really my 9 favorite songs, but they are songs I think can still remain amazing with age.

The Beatles the Fabulous Four.
Elvis Presley the King of Rock.

If you can find some accepted term of endearment for the artist, chances are one of their songs belongs on here.

Well, it went quadruple platinum.

Shall I say more?

Well I don't really see how that impacts music. Take the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles for example. It opened up an entire world of rock to be explored, and kind of defined the entire genre, setting the pace for bands to continue all throughout the 70s and 80s. That song's silly chart thingies or whatever kind of pale in comparison imho :I

Don't argue with me.

I'm not arguing, I'm just dissolving any argument you may have for that song being significant :I It's just that I do not believe that song really contributed much to music. I will admit that it's a popular song, and you are entirely entitled to like it, but I don't see a musical "Greatness" that would make the song noteworthy.

Fun, you're just being stubborn. We are open to defend our points, and you shouldn't revolt in such a manner if we actually have more stable standpoints in our arguments.

It's like every post on this topic is part of an argument about Nicki Minaj. The topic title isn't 'Most Significant' which is objective, but 'Greatest' which is subjective. So, fun, choose what you want-everyone else what you want.
