Hopefully they won't base the forums on flash, that'd be absolutely ridiculous. HTML5 is soon to become an option, a lot sooner than you think. Have you ever heard of SCRATCHTML5, well, it is mostly finished, and is almost ready for release. Once 2.0 comes out, we'll add all the block functionality, and propose it be the default option to the scratch team. Enabling the use of scratch on a larger range of devices. Did you know that mobile devices are beginning to outsell computers? More people are starting to use the web on mobile devices rather than computers.

Just click the Ignore button a few times, and it will just ignore you forever.

To me, this entire argument seems to be about the fact that Flash doesn't work on mobile devices. If you want to use Flash, you could, I don't know, use a computer.
But we're probably going to get this topic closed before anyone can figure that out.

no its about not making it an option on scratch. HTML5 should be the standard, and flash should be obsolete.

Just because something is old does not mean it is automatically terrible.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying it's terrible because of how it can be used, and how it can't be used.

I find it funny that the website there says that Flash presents an "inconsistent experience", whereas (unfortunately) HTML5 is actually much more inconsistent due to is different implementations on different browsers and rendering engines, making something that works perfectly fine on one browser not work on another or having two things look different with the same code.
Despite this, I agree that HTML5 would be a good idea for Scratch, although there's really no significant issue with Flash that means Scratch shouldn't be in it. Flash is consistent, and is compatible with browsers like IE6 that people still use. They're trying to be compatible with the majority of users, and just having HTML5 wouldn't solve that. That's why I salute their move of using Flash first and then making an HTML5 viewer for mobile devices a bit later.
And while I'm on the subject, I don't really think SCRATCHTML5 (wow that's a mouthful) is a viable alternative player, at least right now. I haven't really seen any progress that suggests that more than a handful of blocks have been converted. Rhys' sb2.js is probably the most complete player I've seen so far, with I believe all of the blocks working almost perfectly. It's also much faster than any of the Scratch players, Squeak, Java, or Flash, and is easily moddable.
Scratcher-made players probably don't have too much impact on anything though, because the Scratch Team are apparently making their own
TL;DR: HTML5 would be nice, but there's nothing wrong with Flash and having both is optimal.

As much as I understand your concern for security and privacy, trying to get half the world to uninstall Flash Player just because of some issues that are likely rarely exploited (and shouldn't affect you if you stay away from unknown websites) and because it's slower and more unstable than formats currently in development is a tad bit too extremist in my eyes.
Changes aren't something that can be done instantly, uninstalling Flash Player is something one simply can't afford considering the huge amount of websites and apps relying on it, given that you can trust in at least some of them not exploiting the issues in the player. Scratch 2.0 is an often mentioned example - the Scratch Team is taking an all-Flash approach this time, both in online and offline versions of the program.
