I've written myself into a corner - can anyone help?

So, I'm writing a movie, and I'm at a point where, having failed to save their friend from being murdered once (the movie is about time travel), the main charecters go back a second time to try again. This is where I got stuck. I don't want it to be the same thing over and over, but I have no ideas about where to go from there. I know the movie is going to end with the main charecters leaving the country because everything went too out of control. I just don't know how to link these.

Any ideas?

Perhaps a little problem where time has been messed up from their interference the first time, and they have to fix those problems. Then they find out they had created more problems from the paradox of the doubles and they leave the country because of those problems?  smile

Okay write some stuff happening that's not really explained until they go back and stalk themselves in the past or something. Maybe they could try it over again and again until they get it right?

Back to the Future was a great movie involving this theme, maybe you could watch it for inspiration!

Must know more.  Does the friend have any affinities?  Does the main character have any fears?  What are they both like?  Who else is there, and who murdered him?

Maybe they do subtle things that alter the events...?

Maybe after failing to save their friend once they could save him the next time, but head to the present to find that they also screwed society or something, and they have to go back again and fix everything they messed up?

Not really. They went back in time once to save the hippogriff Buckbeak and also ended up fixing a few other things.

Source Code is another movie, he wasn't asking for the progress so far.  tongue

"Not really. They went back in time once to save the hippogriff Buckbeak and also ended up fixing a few other things."

Now that I consider it, he might have been talking about "writing stuff happening that isn't explained" but I thought he meant them trying it over and over. For the former, subtle things happen like stones being thrown and such.

I've never even heard of time travel in Harry Potter
