Re: Free .com domain names

No, they have not, domain names usually cost 9-15 dollars. However, there are many websites that give away free sub domain websites.

You are probably thinking of sub domain websites like www.mysite.webs.com

However, this promotion lets you get a website like mysite.com

Well trust me on this one, free domain names are very hard to come by and this is a limited time offer.

No, it isn't.

They are. I used to spend hours  a day searching for one until I finally concluded they wouldn't just give them away.
You're talking about subdomains (subdomain.domain.com) instead of domains (domain.com)

No, it isn't.

http://www.freedomain.co.nr/
http://www.dot.tk/
and that site.

Those aren't truly domains. .co.nr is simply somebody who bought a .nr domain name with the domain .co. .Tk is not a valid extension, plus they put ads on.
So when you're getting MyWebsite.co.nr, you're actually getting a subdomain.
.Tk is not a legitimate extension.

sigh...

domain.x

say that's a url. it is valid if there is a server hosting the .x domain. .tk is from an island (forget which), and .co.nr is also valid. like .co.uk or .co.jp.

Oh, well never mind the .tk note. They still put annoying and unprofessional ads on, and nobody really knows .tk is a domain name.
And if .co.nr is a valid domain name extensions, then why does co.nr redirect to http://www.freedomain.co.nr/ ? Co.nr is a domain in itself, not an extensions.

Re: Free .com domain names

.co.uk and .tk websites are subdomain websites and should be free as no one should ever pay for a sub domain site.

Just try getting a free .com website.

It's true.
.tk names are offered free by the government of the place where the domain name is from.

just because it isnt owned by the government doesnt mean it's not a domain.

Re: Free .com domain names

Here is a list of all official domain name extensions. If your extension isn't on the list then it isn't official.

http://www.cnet.com/Resources/Info/Glossary/Terms/domainname2.html

That should settle all arguments.

Re: Free .com domain names

Not a sub domain is official. Sub domains are extensions of other sites.

Also, .tk is the official extension for Tokelau websites. You can get them for free but they come with ads.

here is a site where you can find info on website extensions http://www.iana.org/domains/root/db/

Sometimes you can get free website extensions from smaller countries such as .ws and .tk extension websites.

However keep in mind that this offer is giving away free .com websites which is the most popular extension for a website.

Re: Free .com domain names

Let me settle this once and for all:
If .co.nr was a real domain thinghymabobber, typing co.nr into the address bar would do nothing. However, it does do something. It redirects you to a free redirection domain site, complete proof that it is not an official domain.
