I've wondered this for some time, but since I have a project right now that is at 11.2 MB if I leave it how it is, but is at 9.4 MB if I take out an unneeded but cool feature, is it worth it to leave it in and compress?

Well, it depends on the media in the project. Some sounds and images can be compressed a lot, others won't. And if you choose to compress images and sounds manually before uploading, choosing different settings (high, normal, low) will cause differences in compression size.

I know that if you compress sounds to the lowest quality a 3 minute song that took up 3000KB before will only take up about 800KB after compression.

It can save anywhere from 1KB to several MB. It all depends on what is imported (for example, solid color graphics would be compressed greatly, while pictures wouldn't).
