Ah a tower defense type game. You will probably need hundreds of sprites though.

Well you need about 30 player units, 20 tiles, 10 buttons, 10 bullets per player unit, and about 30 enemy units. 300-400 sprites should be enough.
Or you could make a cheap one with 100 sprites.

You said that Scratch isn't that powerful. Do you actually think a Scratch project could actually support what you are asking. That would be at least 4500 scripts if each of the sprites had at least 15 scripts.
For the tiles you could use a grid system like in chalkmarrow's "chess set v1.0.

well im not using "tiles" whatever they are - i'll do an estimate of how many sprites i'll need for the game...............
TOWERS:
- 3 different types of towers (basic, fast, strong) - for each tower the max will be:
- ONE sprite for turret (aiming thingy)
- TWO sprites for bullets (with a max range and i've worked out i can increase the speed by 3x and range by 2x without needing more bullets - approx)
- ONE EXTRA bullet for fast-firing towers
- ONE for stamping visuals on background.
TOTAL SPRITES FOR TOWERS = 51
ENEMIES:
- 3 differnet types of enemies (basic, fast, strong)
- max of 15 enemies ON-SCREEN at once.
- either one sprite per enemy or one sprite per enemey shown on-screen (with changing costumes)
TOTAL SPRITES FOR ENEMIES: MAXIMUM ~40
BUTTONS/MENUS:
i'll allow for 15 sprites here
so total is around 100 but cud be less.
i've tried making a tower defense game 2 times before but i got bored and found i needed to spend too much time on it. i think my new method is quicker and i rly want to make it this time.
