Re: The Walruses - A Beatles Tribute Band on Scratch

If veggie decides to quit, I wouldn't mind mixing for you, since I have access to Audacity, as well as a mixer (although this won't help me to mix tracks  tongue )

I like the idea of starting with some of the earlier songs though.

Btw, I'm listening right now to "It's all too much"

That's quite a coincidence! The tune of "It's All Too Much" was stuck in my head yesterday after listening to George Martin's revamped "Yellow Submarine" album featuring some other songs (such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band & Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) which weren't featured in the original album of the same name released in 1968.  big_smile

Like I mentioned earlier, I too have great skills in mixing. Sorry, jji7skyline, I don't mean to attack you but tbh Audacity is a pretty mediocre mixing program. I do have a mixer as well but I fail to see its productivity in this situation. More superior audio programs like Reaper, FL Studio & SoundBooth would be better imo (which I have).

As for starting with some of their earlier songs, I am OK with it if All4one also agrees with you, although I find the prospect of their later songs much more exciting. I was never stating that we should do their later songs (like someone misinterpreted previously, causing unnecessary unrest in the band).

However, could we please start with the Abbey Road Medley first and then move on to their earlier songs since that'll showcase some great talent for all departments (vocals, guitars, drums etc.)? Furthermore, I've been longing to cover that with a band for a long time. Moreover, I think All4one also liked the idea.  smile

I think it'd be a good idea to start with the Abbey Road Medley. It would be a very interesting debut that will excite listeners. Then maybe we can take a poll open to all Scratchers, seeing which option they prefer - playing songs in chronological order or in random order based on our song preferences.

Great to see both of us agreed on that!  smile

I always liked to do the medley since it's got great variety. I know the guitar work and piano for all the segments, that's rhythm in some places and lead in some places. I have some bass tabs saved on my computer which I can share with our to-be-bassist. This'll make things a whole lot easier.

I'm a big fan of the medley, so I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result. In the meantime, I think I'll also add you as engineer, DIY.  smile

Re: The Walruses - A Beatles Tribute Band on Scratch

Here's what I feel we should do once we start recording - I think we should record six or seven songs (including the Abbey Road medley) to release as an album/EP, and release about two or three singles (also including the medley).

What do you guys think?

Also, since DIY liked my suggestion for naming the band "The Walruses", should we go with that?

If we don't get any auditions for a bassist or drummer through the week, I'll create a new topic specifically for finding these people. If you guys could suggest any bassists or drummers that could fit the part, that would be great.

Finally, if we don't have an art designer by the time we finish our first single, I'll handle art duties.

Yeah, I think we should go ahead with 'The Walruses'.  cool

We should definitely release the Abbey Road Medley as a single as soon as it's done. Then we can complete some other songs and include them in an album, either an EP or full album.  smile

As for suggestions, I can't think of anyone apart from my fellow FC bandmates. If we can't find a bassist/drummer, you can open a new thread in the Requests section.  neutral

Here's a link. I know the guitar parts so we can get started on it soon.

To be honest, I don't like the music. Can we do something else? If you want to go ahead and do it anyway, you can leave me out of this one, but I think it would be better for the band to do something all together.

Well, the thing is that is considered some of their best work too. I thought you'd have heard of the Abbey Road Medley and liked it. It would be a great accomplishment; the perfect stepping stone to the other work to come. All4one and I feel strongly about it, I'm sure. I for a moment thought that we had the perfect compilation to commence recording, but now you don't seem to like it, we are in a bit of a fix. However, I respect your opinion.

Since you don't seem to mind to be left out of the medley, I suppose we can go ahead because once this is achieved, we'd have shown that we are great at pulling off stellar and complex productions, providing the motivation we'll need for our later arduous endeavours (e.g. A Day in the Life). All4one, it's your choice of what we should do, but the fact that I know all the guitar parts for the medley (rhythm and lead) and the piano bits means that the production can be wrapped up in a pretty little time. This also means I can work efficiently (no need to learn parts) and upload whenever we start proceedings. Currently, I have my commitments with my band Frozen Coco too, so I will have to obviously prioritise the recording of my own songs and the others' over this. But I will always be ready to record within a few days' notice as currently my class is on a three month vacation after we completed our IGCSEs at the end of May.

jji7skyline, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to step down from the medley, while OK with us carrying on anyway. I would still really like to record the medley, but as I said, that's up to you All4one.

We don't have a drummer yet, so you are gladly welcome. You obviously must have some interest in The Beatles (though maybe not such a maniac about them as I am  tongue ), otherwise you wouldn't have posted here.

We have currently decided on recording the Abbey Road Medley as a start for reasons mentioned in the above posts. Here are some drum covers for the medley online [LINK1] [LINK2] [LINK3] (unless you prefer sheet music, I would think there's plenty on the Web), so could you start practising and be ready to record some time soon? Then we can kick off proceedings and I'll get to mixing. Meanwhile I will try to find time for recording my piano and guitar parts for the medley.

Thanks!  smile

Awesome! You must be rather good at drumming to be able to pick things up fast.  wink

This means we should have the complete drum tracks by around Friday (please stay committed and meet the stated deadline) and I can definitely make an effort to record my own tracks, leaving just the bass to be done (we still haven't a player). I can mix the tracks we will have soon and mix the bass tracks once they are done later.

Necromaster, record the drum track while listening to the medley via a headset or headphones, so that only the drum work you are playing is heard in the recording. I will then overlap my respective piano and guitar tracks and have a nearly complete medley. Make sure you record with a good mic and play your track while listening to the original Beatles medley I linked you to, so that my tempo on piano and the guitars will match your's on drums.

All4one, I think I may know a way to get the few orchestral arrangements in the Abbey Road Medley done in a relatively painless way without consulting stand-in musicians. I have the method in mind and will try it when mixing.
