New Retina Macbook Pro

It's awesome isn't it? Check out the video here.

http://www.apple.com/au/macbook-pro/#macbookpro

It's the most awesome computer I've seen yet. All other laptops seem like child play now.

Discuss the new macbook  smile

Re: New Retina Macbook Pro

Can I make a topic for every specific piece of technology I use?

I quite like this keyboard.

Re: New Retina Macbook Pro

I still don't get why you'd even care about the screen, especially because there aren't really any videos at that resolution. I mean for large pictures, sure it might be cool, but it'd have to be pretty big and people don't really just sit and stare at pictures anyway

Re: New Retina Macbook Pro

It is quite disappointing IMO that most of the WWDC rumors were all one "MegaBook Pro." As with anything if you pay you get a great product, but high res should have been spread to all of th MacBooks, and the non-retina 15-inch pro should have been removed altogether. iOS is the biggest update in my opinion.

@soupoftomato: What keyboard is it?

@veggie: Imagine if you could edit 1080p video at it's native resolution, while also viewing the timeline and using editing tools?

@16skittles: Well, they have to keep the normal macbook pro for people who can't afford the >$2000 price tag on that machine  tongue

I'm imagining but that still doesn't really sound very thrilling considering
1. I don't even have a hi-def camera
2. I don't have any reason to do that. My computer usage is generally the internet, some games, listening to music, music recording, and writing.

Ooh, yes, they can afford 1800 but 2000, oh my that is expensive. It is a Mac, for crying out loud, they aren't for people on a budget. Their statement "Everyone deserves a notebook this advanced. And now, everyone can." is a straight up lie. Not everyone can afford 1,000 dollars for a weak eleven inch notebook. If they are to be an "innovative" then they should innovate and the hipsters will buy it anyways.

@16: Well, considering that you can't buy a display of that resolution for anywhere near that price, or even a PC with that kind of specs, this macbook pro is good value.

You completely missed my point. My point is not that it is overpriced, but that Macs have a fundamentally higher price than similar PCs, and the relatively small price difference should not be a sufficient reason to keep around the old MBP 15 instead of replacing it completely with retina.

Lol. Lenovo X1 Carbon wants to talk, jj.

I think you forgot that unlike aluminium, carbon cannot be recycled and is therefore not good for the environment. A key reason why Apple doesn't use carbon for it's products.

Also, I'm not saying that non-Macs are very uncool, but definitely not as cool as the new Retina Macbook pro.

Does the X1 even have a Full HD display, let alone a Retina?  tongue

So, where do I go recycle my old Unibody MBP? Oh wait, nobody does that. Also you may wish to be informed that the Retina MBP is the only Mac laptop with a display resolution of 1080p or more. Which, the Upcoming refresh of the Asus Zenbook will feature in a MacBook Air form factor.

You can recycle Macs by sending them to Apple. You can sometimes get some money for them.

And it's interesting that PCs are always a step behind isn't it. The Retina has over twice the resolution, and is thinner than normal Macbook Pros. It also has a quad-core i7 as well as 7 hours battery life and a top-end 1GB graphics. Oh, and it comes with OSX.

Also, from what I've seen of the new Ultrabooks, the Asus ones are the only ones that even come close to being competition for the Air. Yet, the price is similar, and the Air has better specs.

Did I ever say that the Retina MBP was not beast, or that the X1 Carbon was superior to the pro in any way? Ending this derailment here.

Re: New Retina Macbook Pro

I think Jji lost when the argument was that what computer you own doesn't make you cool or uncool and instead turned to being recyclable.
(I looked up the computer you said veggieman had, and I wouldn't mind having it.)

What computer? The Carbon I was talking about? That's just a cool one, not Veggies.

Oh, well considering it sounded like you called him that or something I was confused.

But now I know it was intended to be a cool example, I agree with you.

NOW I SEE.

You were responding to the "cool" argument, not veggie himself.

Also this.

Why am I bothered by the fact everything Apple makes lately seems to be ridicolously thin?  tongue

EDIT: The fact that it's apparently Flash-based is also quite interesting, I never thought a computer would run faster with it's architecture based on it.  tongue
