Probably migrated.

They will probably keep this same forum software and migrate them.
I doubt that they would delete these posts.
They're actually using DjangoBB, but there is an easy migration tool so I'm assuming that they'll keep the posts.

I haven't heard of that one. Well, now I have!
I looked at it, and it looks almost like an exact copy of Pun/FluxBB.

It is, but it uses the Django framework for Python, just like the new Scratch site.

It depends on how easy it is; often times some things are easier said than done around here, there are times where changes made to the forums brought unexpected bugs to the site and they had to be reverted.
If migration isn't possible, then the old forum will be kept like one giant archive, so Scratchers can go through them. Unless there's a change of heart, my understanding is that the old forum posts are not going to be deleted as there is a lot of information on the forums that are rather useful.

Couldn't you just write some database queries to merge them?

You would have the web developers that question, they have a better inside into how they plan to develop the forum system for Scratch 2.0.

When they start it (again), i will mention that. When it was available it had a nice post dialog, with BBCode tools.
