JetPack Lander - Game in Progress! (FIRST ONE!)

JetPack Lander - Our FIRST Game!

Hey all - After 2+ years of sitting on a downloaded copy of Scratch I decided to dive in.  My 7 year old has been wanting to learn programming (I'm work in the tech world) and thought it would be great if we both learned together.  Although I have a strong background in I.T. and some very limited development work (BASH scripts, PHP and some Python) I thought using Scratch I could get better while he began to get the concepts and fundamentals down.  I was always a fan on the old Lunar Lander game and he is a huge fan of JetPack Joy Ride so together we decided to make this little JetPack lander program together. It is really just the core of the program, we needed to get the basics of motion, sensing and logic down before we moved on and here is what we came up with.

We would LOVE feedback on areas where the code could be more efficient and where we just went about it all wrong.  Your help and input is the only way we really can get better and we appreciate the critique.

The next version will be the real game where you have to stay aloft as long as possible before running out of fuel and try and collect random popup sprites for points/awards/fuel/poweups etc.  Also I want to add more levels to make the final landing place harder (moving platform for example)  Anyway in the mean time please check out the concept and send me your thoughts!  Looking forwarded to continued learning!  Happy Scratching....
