Maybe because it shares its name with something from Sonic '06?

1. I don't think steve'd know that
2. Solaris came first, in 1992

Anything that allows me to get on Scratch, then I'm fine with it.

Hmmm..... I personally prefer Macintsoh. I'm a huge Apple fan. They have lots of cleverly programmed things, and its very simple. Windows is easily customizable, but is extremely easy to "hack" because they don't use the sandbox method Apple does. I also use Ubuntu because it has an interesting twist on programs and is all free source.

My Solution- run bootcamp and use all 3 for the best potential!

Exactly. Get a Mac, and you can use OSX for everyday, Windows for gaming or whatever and Ubuntu for anything you want open-source.

Windows is for everyday. In fact, it's probably more "everyday" than your Mac and Cheese OSX

Actually, I have to disagree with that. I find Macs more user friendly and easier for simple, creative and everyday tasks. It is possible to do those same things on Windows, or an other OS, but I find it more difficult.

For productivity, creativity, and educational purposes, as well as professional purposes, OSX is a clear winner.

I like your verdict, although I don't agree with the part about Apple being closed up
Let's put it this way, Apple's business practices are closed up, but a lot of their software isn't.
For example, I can't think of even one Microsoft program that is open-source. I can however, list a few Apple applications that are open-source.
I especially agree with you about Android tablets. Unless you buy an Android tablet that costs the same as, or more than an iPad, you're going to have a very bad experience. And there is no other tablet on the market today that has a retina display
Veggie, didn't we have a topic for Operating system discussions/debates? I'm going to dig it up againThe reason the iPad is the only tablet to have a retina display is because Apple created it, its just a name for a high definition screen.
Well, no other tablet has a "high definition screen" either so there
For the record, the iPad 3 has 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi).

Mac vs PC? Ubuntu (or related distros)! If I had to choose between Mac or PC, I'd choose Mac.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore. "everyday" computing tasks for 99% of computer users means checking email, wasting their time on Facebook, or other platform-independent web-based "tasks". What defines "everyday" tasks to you? Really, it's having a web browser, music player, possibly BitTorrent client :3 and maybe a music browser. If that, everyday tasks, is what you do, why use a $1,000+ Mac instead of a sub-$500 PC or netbook? A few clicks and you're out of the operating system's interface and into that of the individual app.
@Cooldogs: So you're saying down with the free, open source modification of Unix, up with the closed source, expensive modification tied down to specific hardware and produced by a company with a cult following?
Unless you _need_ OSX, like if you have OSX dependent software or are developing for iOS or OSX systems, buy a windows computer and save some money. Unfortunately human nature will pay twice as much for the shiny thing just because it is shiny. Great people use OSX, but noobs who use OSX just to go on Facebook (I know your're out there) are fools, not visionaries.

Lol, you don't have to invisible bitTorrent because a lot of it's uses are legal. (despite what you use it for)
And what coolhogs said made no sense. I see absolutely nothing wrong with linux.

Oh don't lie to yourself. What I was doing was outlining the basic everyday tasks of a normal person, and they are not using BitTorrent to download Linux distros.

Linux has always seemed nice to me, but I always use Macs. (Not my choice, just what my dad bought) I think they seem really nice, but I've never tried much of a windows.
And a while ago veggie said he didn't care about super speed or good graphics or something.
Firstly, isn't speed really useful? You don't want to waste 5 seconds waiting for a page to load. Not very productive. Secondly, good graphics always makes it more appealing imo.

Firstly, it's longer than it sounds.
Secondly, 1 second is better than 5 seconds.
Thirdly, I guess 5 was a bit low, but think of it more like 10-15.
Fourthly, it all adds up to a lot longer.
