A Summer Duct Tape Business

Hi, guys. You probably know me as the awkward duct-tape obsessed nerd. That or you don't have a clue to who I am.  tongue
Either way, I need your help.

I used to have a duct tape business in school, but now I really want to turn it into something. It was successful, and I want to continue it- only problem is I have no place to sell my products. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get it started again? I thought about setting up a stand somewhere, but I don't know if that's legal.  hmm  Can anyone help me? I'm also considering Etsy, but I like doing requests and stuff and I just really don't know.

Opinions?

You probably will need a permit if you want to set up a stand of some sort. Check the local laws where you live.

If you're planning about using Etsy, you might want to read up about it first. There's a lot of things to think about like shipping and handling, online transactions, etc.  Here's a pretty good book about selling stuff on Etsy.

But if you're thinking about doing requests, you might want to consider doing commission work (aka. create a business where people ask you to make stuff for them) instead of making a stand. Ideally since you started selling stuff to your friends, that's a good start, you can ask them to their their buddies and families.

Re: A Summer Duct Tape Business

Around where I live, there are a number of craft shops that provide selling space and salespeople for crafters and artists, for a percentage of the profits.  Other places are artist "coops" where the artists take turns running the shop.  You might look around and see if you have anything like that in your area.  Good luck with it!

Thank you both very much, that's very helpful!  smile  I'll try to get some more information both locally and on Etsy. It can be a summer project for me to work on.
