Please do not force topics into forum's where they do not belong.

Lately I have been seeing a lot of topics in forums where they do not belong because the creator doesn't know where to put them. So please, if you are not sure if a topic fits in a forum, but there is no-where else for it, make a project or gallery to discuss it, rather than forcing it into a forum it does not belong. Thanks, and Scratch On  smile

Re: Please do not force topics into forum's where they do not belong.

Good idea for a topic! Maybe you should add a guide, to show where topics belong, like this.
New Scratchers: This is where to post topics to introduce yourself.
Just a thought!  smile

Re: Please do not force topics into forum's where they do not belong.

Here's a guide based on the Scratch Wiki article.

New Scratchers

This forum is for new Scratchers.

This forum is for:

* New Scratchers who introduce themselves;
* questions from new Scratchers; and
* guides about simple and important stuff that many new Scratchers may know (like this one.)

Confusions

New Scratchers often get confused if a topic goes into the New Scratchers or Questions About Scratch forum. Scratchers, however, know that help not related to scripts must go in Questions About Scratch.

Some new Scratchers even get confused if a script-related question should go in New Scratchers or Help With Scripts.

Show and Tell

This forum is for material not related to Scratch. However, topics with inappropriate subjects like politics, religion, harmful subjects, and * (which were all popular on the Miscellaneous forum) are not allowed.

Confusions

Many people post things that should go in the "Things I'm Making and Creating" forum.

Questions about Scratch

This forum is where Scratchers post help topics like:

* questions about the Scratch program;
* questions about the Scratch website and forums;
* guidance about the above;
* discoveries about the above; and
* observations about all of the above.

Confusions

Many Scratchers post topics that are:

* consistent of simple information known by many new Scratchers (should be in New Scratchers);
* script-related (should be in Help With Scripts);
* rather advanced (should be in Advanced Topics);
* suggestions (should be in Suggestions);
* discoveries of bugs in Scratch (should be in Bugs and Glitches); or very occasionally
* sensor-related questions (should be in Connecting to the Physical World).

Advanced Topics

This forum is for advanced topics related to:

* Scratch modifications like Rocket or Insanity;
* Shift-Click-R;
* Editing the System Browser;
* Advanced scripting;
* Scratch Extensions like Clutter; and
* Scratch interacting with external programs.

Confusions

Despite its name, this forum is not for alternatives to Scratch, besides the Scratch modification BYOB. Some Scratchers post such subjects in that forum.

Suggestions

This forum is an alternative to the Scratch Suggestions that allows new Scratchers to vote.

Confusions

Non-Scratch-related suggestions aren't allowed on the forums. Suggestions related to fixing bugs, on the other hand, should go in Bugs and Glitches.

Also, some topics like Pixel! end up in Suggestions instead of Show and Tell because they're suggesting that users should view it.

Bugs and Glitches

This forum is for problems related to Scratch. Despite its name, topics don't have to be related to bugs.

Confusions

PicoBoard-related problems should go in Connecting to the Physical World, and not here. Posts about scripting problems should go in Help With Scripts.

Connecting with the Physical World

This forum is for posts related to PicoBoards and Lego WeDo motors.

Confusions

No confusions are known at this time, besides questions about scripts related to this. Such content should go in Help With Scripts.

Collaboration

This forum is for efforts made by Scratch-related companies.

Confusions

Efforts of non-Scratch-related companies like Halliburton should go in Things I'm Making and Creating. Collab Camp collaborations also go in that forum.

Requests

This forum is for requests for things that can be used in projects.

Confusions

Many Scratchers confuse this forum with Collaborations. Some people even post suggestions because they are requesting for content in Scratch 2.0.

Project Ideas

This is for requests of things for projects.

Confusions

Most people confuse this forum with Requests.

&!@ Text-Based Games @!&

This is for most text-based games.

Confusions

This is often confused with the RPG Forum.

\\\> Role-Playing Games <///

This forum is for RPG's and MFG's.

Confusions

This forum is confused with the TBG Forums.

Help With Scripts

This forum is for questions about scripts and scripting problems.

Confusions

Scratchers sometimes post advanced scripting questions here, instead of Advanced Topics.

Things I'm Making and Creating

This forum is for users exploring non-Scratch-related stuff.

Confusions

This is often confused with Show and Tell.

Things I'm Reading and Playing

Discuss books, movies, art, music, or games here.

Confusions

Some Scratchers confuse this forum with the TBG Forums, and put topics that should be in this forum there. Such topics are generally closed or deleted because you can't move topics in the TBG and RPG Forums to the Scratch Forums or vice versa.

Notes

* If your topic is in the wrong forum, it will be moved unless it should be moved from the Scratch Forums to the TBG Forums, which is prohibited.
* Making posts that are off-topic is known as spam.

So, that's all, folks!

What? As long as it can fit into the forum, why shouldn't people be able to post them?

That's what he's saying. He's saying "don't post threads if you know they don't belong anywhere".

If you can make something fit in, even if it didn't belong in there before, it does now. It's not like forcing it in is hurting somebody, and if you can make it fit creatively, then it should be alright

Re: Please do not force topics into forum's where they do not belong.

That's not what I mean. For example, I made some topic about making snowmen a few months back to talk about all of the snow I was getting in my area. Stuff like that (though I did make the snowmen). This is just a chance for people to exercise their creative topic making. The whole "no off topic forums" thing is kind of weird anyways. Pretty much every forum has off topic forums. I'm not talking about spam, just other stuff.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I see what you mean.

That's not what schusteralex meant though (presumably). I'm pretty sure he meant don't use excuses such as the one I mentioned earlier (though obviously not quite as stupid) to make it fit.

I think that their should be a sticky in Questions About Scratch where there's a simple guide and if you're not sure where something goes you just ask it in that sticky and then someone will help you by telling where to put it (if they know where of course).

This forum is for problems related to Scratch. Despite its name, topics don't have to be related to bugs.

Confusions

PicoBoard-related problems should go in Connecting to the Physical World, and not here. Posts about scripting problems should go in Help With Scripts.

P.S. It doesn't matter how long a post is. I know it's long, but take time to read it thoroughly. Also, I accidentally put an extra space in one of the parts.

P.P.S. The word "sex" was censored to "*".
