Why is 'retardant' censored?
I know a mean word is inside it but seriously?
Please put 'retardant' on a whitelist of words.
If 'hell' isnt censored, than why is 'retardant'?
'Hell' is more of a curse than 'retardant'.

Ah, basically, the word filter is not that good. The first 6 letters of that word are often used in a way that we feel is really disrespectful to people with developmental disabilities. We hope to make some improvements on filtering in Scratch 2.0, but meanwhile, there will be these pesky issues I'm afraid.

You wouldn't use "hell" in a direct attack, whereas you might with "retard". That's probably why one's filtered and the other's not.

But someone could use it in the religious way to insult someone
I can see why it's not censored.
There's two ways to use it:
"The nether in minecraft is like a person's picture of hell. It's red, covered in lava, and has some pretty strange creatures."
Then, there's some, er, not-so-nice ways of using it:
"Go to h3ll! You [everything else removed by me]"
This is just an example, and I am not saying this about anyone (the last one).
Oh, and retar(d) is just what people with a mental disability were called a few years back. Just like a hundred years ago, calling a black person a n****r was perfectly okay, but now it's racist. Now you can't call someone who has a mental disability a 'retar(d)' without being looked at like you called them a vegetable. (I couldn't think of anything else that was okay for a few years, then become 'offensive')

I agree, because in a story someone could go on an adventure in Hell during a mythology related story, and use it quite often, so it's fine.

But the problem is, the word isn't retard, it's retardant. There's a difference.

But if the former is blocked, so is the latter.

No, there's a whitelist. That's why "grapes" is now allowed. Retardant should be added to the whitelist.

Well, I really don't understand why Hell isn't censored, in one way, it's terrible, in another way it is used as religion discussion. I'm pretty sure both aren't allowed (or is it just you claiming superiority of your religion?)
However, 're-tardant' should stay white-listed, because if you say it, it sounds really close to 're-tarded'. I don't believe in, at all, calling people 're-tarded' because there are some people that have been born mentally ill and can't help it.
So I -1 this topic. Also, instead of 're-tardant', you can say resistant or something else.

Neither do I, but re-tardant is the proper and scientific term. There is also a difference between re-tardant and resistant.
And hell isnt censored, for many reasons, but theres also a user called helltank.

You mean blacklisted?
"Retardant" is a proper scientific word. Should we ban the use of "horehound", a mint-like plant? Really?

Yeah, I meant blacklisted
I'm not saying we should blacklist every word a immature 13 year old would laugh at, I am just saying retardant should stay blacklisted. You do not always have to talk scientific, also. I just think it should remain how it is, it's not going to do any harm.

Why should retardant be blacklisted, but not others? What makes this a special case?
Retardant is a valid word, and should be treated as such.

What difference does it make if it sounds similar to "retarded"? "Retard" isn't necessarily a bad word either, depending on the context. That's like saying we should censor "truck".

^This. I've seen people say "What the hell" and I've never made a very big deal out of it, but I can see that parents might not nessecarialy want their child seeing something like that.

"Lol we should ban survivorduck someone might see her username and think its a bad word"
^an equivalent thought process to censoring retardant
@Andres-Vaner: Theres a user called Helltank though, and they would then be banned for no reason, and nobody could say their username... -1 to that.

I also find it interesting that "*" is censored, while "hell" isn't, because people will just change it to say what it actually stands for.

You actually can have swear words in your username.
