So, just to delay it and have the one amount of hope remain when all evil went loose, he put Caroline into GLaDOS. Cave then probably died shortly after that. If this is so, why would Chell be brought to work if both Cave and Caroline were gone? Chell is most likely the Rattman's daughter, who he forgot due to him running out of his medication. This is why he had a good feeling about her and chose her.

Wait, here's a new theory: The turret singing at the end of Portal 2  is your mother and the king turret is your father. I know it sounds crazy, but it makes sense. Knowing Caroline was put into GLaDOS, you know human minds can be put into computers or robots. Also, the lyrics of the song the turrets sing is Italian. If you translate it to English, they are:
Dear beautiful, my beautiful darling!
My child, oh heavens!
For I hold her in esteem...
For I hold her in esteem.
Farewell to my dear!

My dear girl,
why do you not walk away?
Yes, away from Science,
My dear, my dear girl?
Ah, my beautiful!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my child!
Oh dear, my dear...

And it's a little unlikely, but Chell could also be Caroline's daughter. Most likely her adopted daughter. Because I've been wondering if the turret opera was a message from GLaDOS or the turrets themselves. 

I'm not sure if any other AI other than GLaDOS ever had a human personality put into them. After all, putting Caroline into GLaDOS was just an experiment (Cave Johnson himself said the technology was experimental). So anyone in their right mind wouldn't do this procedure on a ton of AI when they weren't even sure it would work. Then again, this is Aperture Science we're talking about...

The Oracle Turret was probably another experiment.

I think I can possibly explain this, Aperture saw how the turrets acted - and wondered what would happen if they made a kinder turret. So they did. It didn't shoot them, but said gibberish like, 'Schrondingers Cat, is a trap." They didn't realize that this mean't their fate. And so, when GLaDOS asked for kittens and neurotoxin to perform the experiment, she killed all the employees off with the neurotoxin, despite the warning.

When Chell finds it, it also says nothing but nonsense - except for one vital clue, 'Prometheus was cast into the bowels of the Earth and pecked away by birds.' In a reference of GLaDOS' fate.

That didn't explain anything.

Well, while Portal 2 IS fun, it kind of gets lonely and it just lost my interest after a while.    It's just my personal opinion, after all! And yes, I must be lucky because our library even has Pokemon Black/White. I think our local library network even has Skyrim!

Also it's a generalization that if someone thinks Portal 2 is overrated then they must be a fat orphan that murders robots for fun. I'm probably one of the skinniest non-anorexic people on Earth, in fact. XD

So you can check out games? If we wanted to do that we'd have to rent them from the one remaining blockbuster in our state for six bucks.
You should try to beat it though, it has one of the best endings ever.

You play as a mute person in this FPS with a twist, you don't shoot bullets, you shoot portals. You need to use portals to navigate through the test chambers to please your boss. That is all I can tell.

If I were a professional gamemaker I'd put random but seemingly relevant clues to some supposed backstory everywhere as a joke.

None of the discussion involving Portal is explicitly a part of the games storyline.
