Looking to get your project reviewed/advertised?

NOW CLOSED.

Hey guys, this is WingsGames, working for H4U, and I want to help good projects get noticed and curated!  smile  I've decided to start reviewing projects. They will be reviewed out of 100, using the 7 categories below:

Ideas (25 pts): This is what the idea for your project was. If it was new, original, and exciting, it's a 25. If it has been used many times over, or is just a boring project, the rating will probably be lower.

Gameplay (25 pts): This is how the project works. Were the bosses too hard? Were there too many features? Not enough?

Ease of use(15 pts): This is how easy the controls/navigation of the project were. Do the buttons/keys used make sense for their functions? Are they easy to reach?

Understandability (15 pts): This is how easy the project is to follow. Does the sequence of events make sense? Is it easy to tell what does what?

Feel (10 pts): This is the tone the project takes. Did the project stick with one sort of feel or tone? Was it offensive? Did the feel/tone jump around to much?

Graphics (5 pts.): This is how the project looks. Are the motions smooth?  Are the sprites high-quality? Do all the sprites have the same style?

Sound (5 pts): This is how sound is used in the project. Does the background music make sense? Are the sound effects placed in appropriate places? Do the sounds ever get tedious?

I will review any project you submit, and, if your project gets a high enough rating, it could receive one of these rewards:

85 pts. or higher: A love-it
90 pts. or higher: A place in the Spectacular Projects Gallery
95 pts. or higher: Will be entered in a weekly drawing of projects I will suggest to be front paged.
The highest rated project will go in my sig as project of the week.

As you can see, there are a lot of opportunities to get your project noticed and improved on this page. However, please be patient, as these reviews will take time.

Also, one project per person per day. I can only write oh-so-many reviews in one day!

News:

NOW CLOSED!

6/6/12: Leaderboard added

Projects in drawing:
None.

Highest rated this week:
Comes out this Sunday!

Leaderboard:

P.S: After the first review, you can resubmit your project, but I will only re-rate it, I won't re-review it.

Reviewing courtesy of H4U.

Re: Looking to get your project reviewed/advertised?

Review: Whack a Loki!!! by angelica101

Ideas (8 pts): The whack-a-mole idea isn't very original. I have seen many projects of that genre, and this one didn't stick out. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun idea and a great way to learn the basics of programming, but you could've added more.

Gameplay (17 pts): The game is easy to play and makes sense. When hit by the hammer and not just clicked, the characters went away, which I thought was a nice little touch. Also, there is enough time to click the characters, but the game still feels fast-paced. However, as I said in ideas, you could've added more. The game seems to go on forever, which, quite frankly, gets tedious. Maybe you should add lives or a wider variety of enemies. Power-ups might be a good idea, as well.

Ease of Use (11 pts): Almost everything made sense. Click to kill the enemies. Basic and understandable. However, the "Select your timing!" prompt didn't make sense for what the buttons did. It should've said "Select your song!" or something to that effect. It just had nothing to do with the functions of the buttons.

Understandability (10 pts): There is no storyline, which is a definite drawback. What are the characters doing in the city? Why do you need to kill them. Although background isn't needed, it would definitely add to the project.

Feel (8 pts): This project had a casual sit-back-and-relax feel, which I felt worked and was pretty consistent. However, the song "Numb" didn't fit with the tone, so I will take off two points.

Graphics (1 pt): The graphics could use some work. The bubbles at the beginning didn't match the pixelated graphics of the rest of the project. Speaking of the pixelated graphics, the could've been improved. It was hard to distinguish the details of the city. However, the pixelated graphics felt liked they matched, so you got a point for that.

Sound (4 pts): I liked the sounds, but i felt the song "Numb" didn't fit.

Grand Total: 59

What to Improve: Add more features and make a back story.

Please note: You can resubmit but I will only re-rate, not re-review.

Review: Gumball's Adventures by berberberber

Ideas (25 pts): The idea of a scroller wasn't amazingly original, but the execution was great. I liked the little abilities that Gumball had, and the different types of terrain were great.

Gameplay (23 pts): The game was fun and easy to play. However, some of the levels were a little hard. Checkpoints throughout the more complex levels would be a good idea. Also, I would've liked to see some more of the red gumballs. Nevertheless, it was still great. A sold 23.

Ease of Use (15 pts): The directions and controls were clear and made sense. Maybe you could equip it with WASD controls to appeal to a wider audience.

Understandability (10 pts): The game would benefit from a storyline. Who are the red gumballs? What is Gumball doing there? I don't want to have to take off 5 points, but a storyline is important.

Feel (10 pts): The game had a fun, island-y feel. The music and graphics worked well with it.

Graphics (5 pts): The graphics were amazing! I loved the way Gumball moved and the way his eyes followed. The terrain was simplistic and fit.

Sound (5 pts): The music fit well.

Grand Total: 93

Prizes: A love-it, a spot in the gallery.

What to Improve: Add a storyline. That would get you a near-perfect score.

Please note: You can resubmit but I will only re-rate, not re-review.

Re: Looking to get your project reviewed/advertised?

I am really proud of my arcade-like game, HumHum Round-Up. If it doesn't get enough points, I am glad to have someone to suggest improvements. It is the first game I have ever made.

Review: HumHum Round-Up by humhumgames

Ideas (25 pts): I haven't seen any round-up games, so this is very unique.

Gameplay (10 pts): The game was hard and somewhat annoying. There didn't seem to be any way to control where the HumHums went, so getting them in the pens was an unpleasant challenge. Also, the HumHums would go through the side of the pens, a definite glitch that needs to be smoothed out.

Ease of Use (8 pts): There was no help or instructions button to which to refer. There was no way to control where the HumHums went, which is where you lost most of your points.

Understandability (13 pts): The game has a clear objective, but no storyline. It doesn't exactly need one, but it would be a nice addition. Something along the lines of "Farmer Brown's HumHums have gotten out!" would work fine.

Feel (10 pts): The game had a casual, farmer-y, and somewhat funny feel that the music and graphics matched.

Graphics (5 pts): The graphics weren't of the highest caliber, but the quality was good and the graphics matched each other.

Sound (5 pts): The music fit well.

Grand Total: 76

Prizes: None.

What to Improve: Make it so that you can control where the HumHums go. That would fix a lot of the problems.

Please note: You can resubmit but I will only re-rate, not re-review.

They move randomly, and I know a very simple script to make them go in the direction of your mouse or the opposite. I made them move how they did so the game would be challenging and gameplay will change every time. Maybe in an improved version I could make it so that you could choose from easy, medium or hard. Easy is going in the direction of your mouse, medium is opposite direction, and hard is what is currently being used. Thank you for your opinion.

Re: Looking to get your project reviewed/advertised?

Can you please review The Level Game? When you review it, I'd love suggestions for the 100-level version. Thanks in advance.

I can also apologise for poor sound and image quality on some levels, and massive lag, it is an extremely large project.

Re: Looking to get your project reviewed/advertised?

Review: Pixel by ftf841

Ideas (24 pts): I have seen many scrollers, but the storyline behind the game, ability to shoot, and the boss battles give it its own unique flavor. However, there isn't very much that's memorable, so I'll have to take one point off for that. Maybe you can add an upgrades shop.

Gameplay (17 pts): The physics and scrolling all looked great. In fact, that was one of my favorite parts of the game, along with the ability to shoot. However, the first boss battle, was very annoying until I figure it out. You should also be able to just kill the boss. It would definitely make the game more enjoyable. Also, when shooting rapidly, the bullets would disappear and go back to the pixel. To fix this, you could make multiple bullet sprites (or wait for Scratch 2.0 and use the clone script). On level 3, you just die.

Ease of Use (15 pts): The controls were basic and easy. To make the game accessible to a wider audience, you should add WASD controls.

Understandability (12 pts): There was a storyline, but the spelling and grammar was careless. I know you put effort into the game; please make it look that way! Aside from that, it would've been helpful to give us a little context for each level (how did he get to pixel city?).

Feel (10 pts): The game had an intense, somewhat urgent feel. It all worked.

Graphics (5 pts): The minimalistic graphics worked well together, and the motion was smooth.

Sound (5 pts): The music was good.

Grand Total: 88

Prizes: A love-it.

What to Improve: Fix the mentioned glitches. The little things add up!

Please note: You can resubmit but I will only re-rate, not re-review.

for the multiple bullet thing i will only add 2 bullets because if there was too many bullets it would make the boss battles too easy.
