Might as well check out these forums. ......Well, I've been listening to Gotye's music lately.
You see, his style is very vintage and you can tell his songs have been inspired from many various decades. Just looking at his album "Making Mirrors" on iTunes, I can tell you all his songs sound very different and some of them remind me very much of:
Sting/The Police
U2
Bruce Springsteen
John Lennon/The Beatles
The Doors (keyboard)
Todd Rundgren
Schmoyoho (The Autotune the News guys)
Skrillex
Ever since his quirky breakup song "Somebody That I Used to Know" shot to #1 in the charts, it's been a good time to be a weird kid that likes his parents' music.

Ehh, I'm not too fond of it and don't really find much similarity between it and those groups you listed.

Where did Skrillex come from? /:)

My teacher showed us one of his songs. This was the one. It's my favorite of his.
My teacher actually knows him in person, and was a fan before he got popular with "Somebody That I Used to Know".
