New user group

I don't have any ideas for a name, but I was thinking that some trusted members of the community could have the ability to hide projects that they believe to be inappropriate when they flag them. As of right now the mods get a message when a project has been flagged, but if no mods are online the project could stay up for several hours. My idea is that some users would also receive flags on projects and they could hide the project if they believed it was inappropriate. This would take some load off of our excellent moderation staff and prevent inappropriate projects from remaining on the website. When one of these members hid a project, instead of the "This project seems to be missing or deleted" message it would say something along the lines of "The Scratch Team and Community Moderators are reviewing this project." Then the creator of the project would get a message explaining what happened. The Mods and ST would see all the projects hidden and decide what to do with them.

Re: New user group

I support, but I believe there should only be two or three people with those privileges.

I was thinking more, but not over 10 for sure. Because they aren't actually deleting the projects, only hiding them, if one was to abuse their powers it would only be a minor inconvenience.

Re: New user group

First, let me clarify something. Mods don't have access to the flag list, only ST. When mods flag something, they can choose to immediately censor it. If several community members flag a project (i think 5 or so), it gets censored. Then, the ST checks over it, and if it's OK, they put it back up. If not, they take it down, and message the user.

It sounds to me like what you are actually asking for is mods to have mod permissions on the main site. Which would be cool.

I always thought mods did have mod powers on main site  hmm

Well, I guess you learn something new every day  tongue  So based on that new info there, I believe mods should have access to flag list on main site, mainly because the ST, no matter how great they are at doing it, can't be on 24/7 to remove all the inappropriate projects. I think that about 1 new inappropriate project every half an hour, and the 3 (I believe) active moderating Scratch Team members can't keep up with that all by their lonesome.

I think they don't, because if you upload something, delete it, and reupload, it has the same stats as before it was deleted.

Is that if you use the same name?
