No more birth date

When you sign up for an account, there shouldn't be asking you when your birthdate is. Some people who do scratch are very young, and you shouldn't share information about yourself.

Re: No more birth date

Scratch isn't going to give out personal information.

They do not give it out. Period. But what I don't understand is why they ask for it when they always assume people are lying. (I'm not saying that they assume everybody lies, I'm saying that whenever they have something that needs age restrictions (like moderators), they go through different ways to get it then looking at the date they put in.)

Re: No more birth date

I suppose they like to have a general idea how old most of their users are, but they could just ask for an age rather than an exact birth date.

The sign-up page only stores the month and the year, no exact birth dates are ever recorded.

This generalized birth date is just needed to help the Scratch Team see the age distribution of users using Scratch. Here's an example of that data in actionsmile

That's also why they ask for your gender. On that graph, you can click "options", then "gender", then check "color by gender". You can see that it's people like me who do the most Scratching.  wink

Oh, yeah. I see it doens't even ask for the day. I guess I remembered wrong.

Honestly I don't see any problem with that then.
