Now that it's getting hotter (here), my laptop has started to get hot, so I put it near the vent or use a frozen water bottle. How do you deal with this?

Cool! I have a Dell Inspiron, not sure on the specifics.

I found this. Apparently it's some kind of fancy, expensive high-tech pad with cooling crystals or something. You need to buy it, though hmm

Really? Mine can run almost anything without overheating. It did turn on it's fan while playing this really high-quality graphics game, but that's about it. smile

I think it's only really overheating if it starts to shut down, if the fan just turns on it's fine. I just think the fan's annoying due to a sort of what I like to call minimalist complex about my computer (that's not a real thing to call it, by the way). I try to have as few things on it as possible, like tabs.

Dell laptops can use i8kfan utility which lets you control the fans.

You can also keep the laptop out of direct sunlight.

If it's really hot, place the laptop on a bag of frozen peas or similar.

EDIT: @steve: PC laptops tend to be prone to overheating.

Ehh, my laptop is generally OK about overheating, it never gets really hot, though that might be just because I never do much that's really complex like 3D games or Photoshop.

Um... turn it off and put it by a fan or something? Of course, make sure the fan is blowing into your computer's fan.

The best way to do this on a Windows PC is to click the Start menu, and then click the shut down button.

That is what a cooling pad was designed for. I heard that you shouldn't use ice packs and stuff to cool your computer. (Probably from condensation and water getting inside your computer.) My computer which is a HP/Compaq Presario CQ61. I also heard that Presario's overheat easily, which I agree with that because my friend's one does that too.

HPs have actually been proven to run hotter than other brands. Not without good reason, because I can't tell the difference between the bottom of my HP laptop and the surface of the sun when playing Minecraft, Mass Effect 2, or Nitronic Rush.

What I usually do is quit playing games for about 15 minutes, until it cools down. It also doesn't hurt to keep it off bed sheets and other soft things, because that will block off the ventilation.
