Language Forums Used as a Misc. Forum

The different languages forums has no categories, so all the different posts can go in there. So that would mean that anybody could use Google Translate and go to a different language forum to post something that isn't in any of the categories in the main forums. So I think we should also subdivide the languages forums like we did in the English forums. Am I right? If you don't subdivide it, you might as well just put back the Miscellaneous Forums. What do you think? Please move this post if this belongs in the Suggestions forums. Thanks!  smile

Re: Language Forums Used as a Misc. Forum

This does look more like a suggestion, so I'm more it to the Suggestions forum.

Although Scratchers might be able to post a wide variety of things on the other language forums, its simply because it woudn't be practical to subdivide each of the language forums - there aren't enough traffic or posts for it to be necessary. Even on the German forums that have the most activity, they just categorize posts by adding tags in the titles of topics, such as [Scratch], [Wiki], etc. If the topics in the language forums are too off-topic, then we certainly can close them though.

Besides, it wouldn't be very practical to post in a different language just so you can talk about off-topic things. And the mods would probably notice.  tongue

I wouldn't worry about it. Using google translate and other languages to facilitate conversation wouldn't work well, and we would likely notice if a Scratcher that normally uses the English forums is posting in the Language forums.

But what if they usually use English, but they speak Spanish, so then they post in there?

Re: Language Forums Used as a Misc. Forum

This isn't really that large of a problem.
The language forums aren't very active, and it wouldn't be very practical to constantly post using Google Translate.

Re: Language Forums Used as a Misc. Forum

The foreign language forums are for native speakers to use to talk about Scratch-related topics.  When we see posts that don't follow those guidelines, we ask the posters to stop and they generally do.  It's happened a few times  smile

I am English but also speak French and Spanish at GCSE level, I check those 2 forums quite a lot and (although it has not happened yet) if I see someone asking for help I will try and help, speaking in their language. We are allowed to do that aren't we?

Yeah, you are allowed. He's just saying it's against the rules if it's not Scratch-related.  smile
