If a project gets front page
...will I get some sort of notification? Because I almost never check the front page.

I usually go on the forums first. 95% of the time I'm on this site, I don't enter via the front page.
And I think he means he doesn't pay attention to it.

Nope and nope. My Scratch page is my Internet Explorer homepage, so I never even see the front page unless I log out, or deliberately check it.

I think you'll know when you get on the frontpage, because you get a lot of comments really fast.
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Yeah, my second day on Scratch (when my first project got featured) I logged in and it said "55 messages." I was like "Whhaaaat?" and checked the front page to see if it got featured or something.

as long as its not misused, saying something like ******** a couple of times wont hurt too much, (imo)
