Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

I cannot use cloud variables because it says I need to be logged in. But the log in feature i not finished yet! How do people post their projects without logging in?

Goodbye 1.4. I'll always remember you and treasure your awesomeness in my heart.

Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

PROS:  The online  project-creator/project-editor.  The backpack tool is nice, but I feel that it could be greatly improved or replaced with something better.

CONS:  What I found very displeasing was the inability to log in, and therefore I was not able to experiment with the cloud variables.  I also noticed that many things - like the new paint editor - that we saw in the preview video are not currently available.  Another annoying issue with not being able to log in, is that we can not experiment with the new "follow" button on galleries.  The final drawback to the current Scratch 2.0 prototype is it's extreme limitations for the creation of a new block.  I can't make a boolean or a reporter; we need to have this!  I find it also necessary to have a second "[clone startup]" hat block:

 {clone [clone 2 v] startup} //This is a "Control" hat block
This block is essential to making a sprite that has varied behaviors based on the number of clones it has made.  This other approach would also work however:
 {number of clones} //This is a "Control" reporter block
and
{[number of clones v] of [Sprite1 v]} //This the "Sensing" ([data type v] of [Sprite]) reporter block
One of these two options is a must have for projects with advanced cloning.

*** Please note that i only used "{" , "}" to emphasize that these blocks do not exist. ***

Thanks,

Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

when gf clicked
try the alpha...
think [me gusta] for <when I use the alpha>
set [various things v] to themes!
think [join [it would be cool if] [(various things)]
say [There should be selectable themes for scratch!!!]
There should be themes because different visual environments can change the attention span of the programmer. This way, people could find the theme that fits them the best and concentrate.

I love it! Except there's one problem. At of the projects i deleted say the scratch team took them down. Is that a glitch?

Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

I just had an idea: since all of scratch 2.0 runs on flash, can we have a block like this:

code: [Insert flash coding here]
this would bake it so that we could type flash code into our project, so if there isn't a block that will do what we want, we could code it to do something. could this happen?

Did the ST forget the "I receive [broadcast]" Boolean block?

Malicious code could be entered though

Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

One thing - on the edit feature, I wish you could put a C-type block around scripts while they're attached to an event block like in 1.4.

Little Bug: I noticed that when a clone and a parent both play a sound, the whole projects stops.  hmm

Thanks for reporting this. I wasn't able to recreate this bug. If you get a chance, could you check what version of Flash you have? (To do that, right-click on the Scratch Editor to get the Adobe menu, which will tell you the version number.) Also, what browser and what OS are you using? That might help me track this down.

Thanks!

That's a cool idea - I think I've seen it in some other flash game-making programs like Stencyl. But I don't think it will be added because it will make the program less accessible to everyone. Some people will have the advantage that they know flash and others don't, and it will make advanced projects more difficult to understand for learning Scratchers.

That's a really good point too. The webcam does this too, though, but in a bit of a different way; I can't use webcam projects because I don't have a webcam.

Money says someone's gonna find a way to download the scratch flash files.

Well you can easily but embedding them so it works is the hard part.

It's something to do with the Javascript and parameters and stuff (and maybe it's even programmed to only run properly on the alpha.scratch.mit.edu site right now) but I'm not sure exactly what.

Re: What do you think of the Scratch 2.0 Prototype?

Looks cool, but nothing works for me!I cant even veiw projects (example ones)! Also, about the add code thing, you guys can have it so the added code has to be monitored what it does before letting use it.If that happens or something else that allows that,it would be nice to have the game search also search for coded blocks for dowload for those who cant code!(If creator of the code wants to upload...)(The following is off topic)Its annoying that when I go back to fix an error I have to re-type everything written after the error.

@Targethero: Hahaha! XDD

It was interesting looking at the new features in the projects, but there wasn't really much to do other than that. Thanks for the sneak peak, though!  smile

It's the alpha. You can't do that yet.
