Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

The new design is amazing. It's very sleek, and all the old projects look out of place in it.

The backpack will be incredibly useful. It would be very useful for collaborations, and transferring scripts form one project to another (which is a pain). I was wondering how credit will be given, as one project could have sprites and scripts by many authors.

And vector graphics are awesome. I have a game engine the needs a lot of resizing, and I've made it but I'm been waiting for 2.0 to actually make a game with it. Because, with vector graphics, it won't look ugly when I resize it.

The motion sensors are amazing. I can't wait until the whole release is out so I can test the limitations. Maybe an on-screen Dance Dance Revolution that you can play with your fingers?

Cloning is a great idea because it would really save space in projects. And save a lot of time. If you need to change something in a sprite and you have 7 copies, you have to go and change it in all the sprites.

I really like everything.

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

Object cloning is such a fundamental part of programming yet it was absent in the program for years while people used inefficient workarounds. Cloning alone raises the potential of scratch by about 50%. Custom blocks are also killer, really helps to organize code and better prepare people for other forms of programming. One thing I am kind of disappointed in is the lack of multidimensional arrays (lists), has the potential to make code in general  more efficient like the custom block feature, but there is still a chance for it to be in the final version. Also the new user pages are way better, bio pages are a good way to let people know whats up.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

The backpack.  That worked well.

I also look forward to playing with the clone blocks.

I'm curious about "scene's".  Seems like a "flash-centric" thing.  I'm wondering how those will work in Scratch.

I was happy that I was able to load my 1.4 projects and they ran (mostly) fine.

It is just below the block edit window (right side of screen).  You need to click on it in order to view it.

You can drag individual blocks or entire sprites in there.

I like the fact that you can just click the scrolling bar so that the window will move without having to actually drag it.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

Cloning is nice.... cloud variables seem to have great potential.... and the blocks teach great programming. Not sure if the blocks can be defined and shared between sprites ?

Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

The webcam opens up some wonderful possibilities for new types of games. And I'm also super exited about making multiplayer games!

The cloning is also fantastic because I can make unlimited bullets for a machine gun!

Re: Scratch 2.0 Prototype: Favorite Things

My favorite part is probably the cloud variables. This will make high score saving and multi-player games possible!
I also love the idea of cloning. I used to play with a different programming site with cloning, and I always wished that Scratch could do the same thing.
And the BYOB also looks really cool! It will make games more efficient and dynamic.

However, I don't have a webcam...so I won't be able to enjoy that update.

I feel odd asking this about a ST member, but does this really belong in suggestions?
