Seriously, what's up with people hating on Photoshop?
I have both, and Photoshop is much better.

Paint.NET all the way. 

Nah, kidding, once you get used to it there's a LOT you can't do with it. That doesn't stop me from using it though. :p

I still have GIMP on my computer from aaaages ago. I used it once or twice, but I keep procrastinating when it comes to actually learning how to use it.    I do agree it's better than Photoshop though, simply because it's free and can (from what I've heard) do virtually everything Photoshop can do.

It depends basically on what you're interested in.

I've used GIMP for years and I know what its capable of. I recently got Photoshop CS5 and it is just better at what it does then GIMP. I'm not going to go into why  right now because it would be too long of a read, i'll just say it has much much much much more useful features. I think any professional photographer or graphic designer would agree with me.

You don't really talk about what each can actually do.

But Photoshop has better built in features IMO which don't require downloading plugins.

The one that does the stuff to the thing, of course.

I don't hate it, I use both.
Photoshop is certainly useful for photograph editing and has much better filters and plugins, but for basic image manipulation and general, everyday purposes GIMP is far more useful.

Actually, it's not necessarily. Photoshop has the same tools and more that Gimp has but Photoshop is much harder to get good at. If you decent at Photoshop, you can do your everyday things pretty fast and easily.

It doesn't really matter if your tabs open/close quickly if your anchoring thing makes one layer always anchor to the same [removed - please be respectful] one even if you print screen the stupid thing and copy-paste it [/rant]
There's also accessibility - for GIMP, you get about 1,680,000 results for tutorials. Photoshop gets 38,600,000, and there's a similar difference for most things you search).I guess this isn't fair considering GIMP might be better but more obscure, but it's still there.

Like I said. They both have similar features for editing and things, but since Photoshop can't use Gimp plugins, however Gimp can use Photoshop plugins, I guess Gimp would have more features.

Also, you can always look at the official documentation.
