i think that this would be the best idea ever

Can those devices even run squeak code? If not then scratch would have to be completely recoded.

what are you talking about. just because you dont have a iPod or Iphone doesnt mean that you should think that it is a better idea. plus the iTouch totaly tromps that psp anyday
Offline
yes it does belong in the sugestions forums and it would be worth it to recode everything to get it on the iPod. if they charged .99 cents they would make so much of a profit and they would have more funding for say scratch 1.5

it's iPod touch. Not iTouch. And the iPod touch/iPhone doesn't support Squeak. It uses C++ code. Scratch would have to be COMPLETELY recoded to even begin to work on the iPhone/iPod touch platform.

ya but think about the money they could get by charging .99 cents for the app that would make their next project.

I think it's a great idea. I could make projects on my iTouch

ya i know these guys seem not to agree though

You can use scratch on Iphone in the same way you can with the psp

Also, psp> Itouch
I think that the Itouch is so over rated. Its main use is to play flash like game and play little apps. PSP has real games and lots of different apps are available if you put homebrew on it, not to mention its cheaper.

But iPod Touch isn't supposed to be a gaming system, it's primarily an MP3 player with more capabilities, or rather much like a cell phone without the phone.

Well psp also plays music, and a modded psp also has tons of free apps available

Nobody in my class uses their itouch for music (which is why I bought the nano). It's all "Look at this expensive but forgettable app". I think the DSi is better than the itouch (and with direct download and opera browsing, the DSi's features can actually stand up to the itouch)
Offline
DSi's extra features are pretty useless. Just get a normal ds flash cart and you can run much cooler homebrew apps.

On Topic: The iPod Touch or iPhone don't support squeak which is what Scratch is written in, so it wouldn't work. Also, MIT is a non-profit company so they aren't interested in selling their product on the iPod Touch or iPhone.
Off Topic: iPod Touchs are easily better than PSP or DSi because of the amount of features it has. As far as I know, the iPod Touch can do everything a PSP can, except play the consoles games, but the Touch has it's own amazing games that you would never see on a PSP, aswell as having features that a PSP hasn't. The DSi is basically a waste of money. It is only good for downloading games. (In my opinion .. don't want to get into a flame war)

A unmodded psp has less features but a modded psp has more features than a itouch.

As a matter of fact, the Squeak VM has been successfully ported to the iPhone, and there are even some Squeak-based iPhone apps available. So, technically porting Scratch to the iPhone is definitely feasible. Anybody come up with a clever design how to fit all of Scratch unto the iPhone's tiny display screen?
Offline
Plain and simple. Not a big enough screen

Let's just see you try to take a program and recode it in an entirely different programming language and try to make it exactly the same as the old version...

The Scratch team isn't allowed to charge money for Scratch.
