Anyone kinda want 1.4 scratch to stay? <:(

Uhh...So, I just saw the preview video... I'm kind of sad about it. I grew up with this homepage, and I've grown to love it with all my heart. Now, it's turned into facebook (a website I personaly don't like at ALL.) and I feel like I'm going to cry. Sure, some of the new features look cool, but I like downloading projects and exporting sounds and sprites... I just wish I could still have all that.... Anyone else kind of sad?

PLEASE don't nag/troll me. I have Aspergers, and it's one of the reasons I react negativley to changes.

Oh, and if a scratch team member sees this, is there ANY way you could have a setting/feature where I can view it like the old page and post projects normaly? It would be a big help...

Please understand that I think it looks cool and all, and I respect oppinions, but PLEASE know that some of us don't like all the changes... Thanks for hearing me...

Yeah, but it's...different.

You'll get used to it. I hate changes too and that's one of my main concerns about 2.0, but just give it time and you'll see how much better it is... Hopefully.

Well, I like some of the features, but I think it lost it's charm...

Re: Anyone kinda want 1.4 scratch to stay? <:(

Personally, I think it should have gone more towards a youtube-like direction, more intuitive friends system and easier uploading.
It had to change sometime, maybe they could change it a bit less though.
I'll always miss this look too, but you must be open to change.
Scratch never had this "charm" you speak of, it's a kid's programming language and it isn't designed for you but for the youth.  This will be easier for them to understand.

To react less negatively to change, remember what the target userbase of the changing object is.

Hey, I stuck with 1.3 for a while because I didn't like the change. I'm with you. Maybe I'll mod the download version for us back to 1.4, only with the new bells and whistles.

There's no way to view it like the old page, but you can still post projects normally by uploading via the interface. Additionally, there will be a downloadable version of Scratch 2.0 so you will still have the option to switch to Scratch 2.0 while still having the luxury of working offline; it's just that the online version is currently being worked on because of the many benefits of having a version of the Scratch interface online (for example, students who will find it easier to work on Scratch at home and at school without having to worry about compatible versions of Scratch on both home and school computers).

Keep in mind that the website is still being developed, there's a lot of things that the ST is still considering, from commenting features, to incorporating collab works, ease of site use, etc. So not all the changes are set in stone yet.

Please understand that I think it looks cool and all, and I respect oppinions, but PLEASE know that some of us don't like all the changes... Thanks for hearing me...

I know we all don't like changes at times but sometimes it's for the better even if we don't initially like the changes at first. But take advantage of the being able to preview Scratch 2.0 around Scratch Day, as it will give you a chance to experience and get used to some of the upcoming the changes and give feedback on them before they're put into place.  smile

Re: Anyone kinda want 1.4 scratch to stay? <:(

WAItWaitwait... they're getting RID of project dowlnoading??
There are so many projects on here that will now be either unplayable, or super slow. Some projects, by scratchers who don't even come here anymore, have a thing that detects online-ness, and those projects will be unplayable.
Plus some project lag horribly online.
PLEASE keep the download feature. Or I will be teh sad.  sad   sad   sad   sad   sad

EDIT: you know what forget it if they change to scratch 2.0 i'm leaving forever

Last I heard, it was still in the design plan to include the ability to download a project and run it off-line.  It's just not done yet.

Alright I'm ok with it if they keep the download feature.

Ah! If that idea follows through, when it overwrites my originaly downloaded 1.4, will the sprites and sounds I had saved to 1.4 transfer my downloaded 2.0? When 1.4 came out, I had sprites and music saved to my downloaded 1.3, and when I downloaded 1.4, they were all lost. Do you know if that is a feature yet, or is it too early to tell? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions. You're being a big help, though  smile

grr, it's a simple answer, if you don't like it then don't do it ;_; no one will ever force you to upgrade. besides, I think that they have older downloads of scratch somewhere or something.

You can't change the fact that the website layout will change though, which is what s/he's mainly talking about.

I used to not like the change of Misc. being gone, but when I look back at it, Misc. was pretty much just a place to spam and rant and to cause unnessecary drama. (-iNetMaster-, "I QUIT!", "I hate x!")

It would be cool if they had a thing where you could change themes from 'Classic' to '2.0', sorta like Blockland(?) did.
A feature that I do enjoy however is the ability to scroll through the projects on the front page without having to go to another link. That just makes it all worth it.

Exactly what i was thinking. Neopets has that feature, too. It has normal and "Classic" style neopets pages.

The scrolling thing? meh. it doesn't concern me much.

It was roblox actually.
Let me go cry in a corner for knowing that, now.

You'll still be able to do many of the things that Scratch 1.4 allows you to do.
