Hm? I don't get what you're trying to say... Mainly because of the incorrect English that makes it incomprehensible...

He means that if scratch was hosted on a server, and there was a downloadable mobile client to connect to it, then that would work.

Re: Scratch on portable devices...

I have an idea.

What if we could run Scratch through JPC (http://jpc.sourceforge.net/home_home.html) and a modded Squeak NOS (http://squeaknos.sourceforge.net)? We'll take the original image and replace it with the Scratch image. It'll run on any device that support Java, and you'll be able to upload to Scratch but you won't be able to save projects locally, have a keyboard, or be able to view projects.

I'm already trying this, but without success.

Just a thought...

EDIT! I'm really really really close to getting this done, all I need is to find the El Torito boot image in the SqueakNOS iso.

EDIT! I made the ISO, then ran it in VirtualBox. It looks like it's KPing (kernel panicking) on me because it's printing weird stuff like:

67016936 Form>displayOn:at:clippingBox:rule:fillColor:

Maybe someone that's experienced in Squeak could help me out.

Re: Scratch on portable devices...

I think for like an iPod you would make iPod-comparable games. There would be no keyboard so you'd have to use the normal stuff like when screen touch or if iPod tilted.

Re: Scratch on portable devices...

I would love to see scratch as a download option for the 3DS, and figure out a way to be able to upload created projects to the computer version! I think that scratching on-the-go would be really cool!

I think it we would be cool to have Scratch on some common portable devices. Scratch is made in squeak, a very cross-platform programming environment.

You just need a VM, you have:
Squeak for Windows Mobile
Squeak for Iphone (iSqueak)
Squeak for Nintendo DS
______________________

Now we still need a portable scratch application. Scratch 1.4 works kind of, but it is designed for normal PC's and thus not ideal. It consumes way too much memory for use on resource-limited  devices.

What would a portable Scratch app look like?
Should it allow you to create Scratch projects, or just play them?

I already managed to play Scratch projects on a Windows Mobile Phone, it's really cool and I think this idea has a lot of potential.

Please post what you think!

JSO

~Yes, Apple does not support Scratch, sadly. I'm afraid Scratch on the iPhone may not work out. Nor on the Nintendo D.S.

~But, look on the good side of things! Windows Mobile Phone sounds like a great idea. And perhaps the idea can work on some very popular game devices such as the PlayStation or the X-Box

I wish there was!  smile

The admins of Scratch would have to look over their rules, however. What if there are many rules for the Android phone, or their rules do not allow Scratch?

Why do you think apple got rid of it? I totally agree with you. It would be great to have it on your iPhone. Then you could scratch on the go!  smile

Re: Scratch on portable devices...

That would be very cool! What if there was a way when you were on the scratch website (on a mobile device) to save the project, and then make it go to the scratch app? Almost like saving a picture to your camera roll or whatever, but it's a scratch project ready to play on the app! Just to kinda to throw some inspirational ideas around.
