Yup, that's a vague way of putting it.

Essentially, they're emails that can be sent to you on a daily, weekly or monthly basis on new posts/topics. This is useful for small forums, but just a waste on the huge Scratch forums.

So, I should keep it at the "don't use" thingy.

They're disabled anyway, so even if you enabled them, you wouldn't get email

They are? Try it out, see if you get anything.    When i tried, i did. However, it was rather pointless for me, because i check the forums so often that the email comes hours too late.
